Fallout 3 (GOTY) Windows 8 (Surface Pro 2) Not Working

Post » Sat Jan 04, 2014 1:55 pm

Hi

I just got a Microsoft Surface Pro 2 running Windows 8.

I have read tons of articles about people playing Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas on their Surface Pros. They seem to install and play fine for almost everybody.

I just downloaded Fallout 3 (Game of the Year Edition) from Steam on my Surface Pro 2. The download and install were straightforward -- No problems, but for the past 2 days I have been trying everything to get the game to work.

The game actually loads up normally; I just can't get past the main title/menu screen.

When I hit "new game" and then answer "Yes" the game crashes with the message "Fallout 3 has stopped working".

I followed several web guides on the Fallout3 Windows 7/8 issue but got no where (These mostly involved changing the config and .ini files for the game, installing windows games Live suite, etc.).

I also followed (word for word) the windows 7/8 fix earlier posted in the gamesas forum.

I have also been playing with settings, compatibility, etc. but all with no luck.

This seems to be a common problem on the web but some answers are kind of fishy and I've already tried the others. Any help?

Thanks

Sreyas

I believe FO3 will not be able to play on your surface 2 due to Intel Video card. You might be able to get it to work with a dll that passes the video card check when you click play but it might cause other issues for your surface 2.

And the other main thing is to run absolutely nothing else , maybe even disable your internet connect.

With a new computer , Im sure it is full of bloatware stuff eating up the processor and memory.
