Skyrim Resolution Problem

Post » Sun Jan 05, 2014 7:33 am

Hey everyone,

So my problem is that I've recently downloaded skyrim from steam, everything is working perfectly but there is one problem. I run the game on a resolution of 1280x1024 which is the native resolution of my display. The resolution seems to be supported by the skyrim launcher and i have all the correct settings selected. However when i play the game the resolution is simply too small and everything looks zoomed in, during the character creation menu i cant see a good chunk of the text on the right of the screen and when in combat i cant see half of my weapon. This is also a problem for the menu where if i use my inventory many of the inventory text boarders actually overlap each other, to summarise everything is simply too big to fit the screen even though its being run on the correct resolution. Iv tried various things to resolve this but nothing has worked. Has anyone encountered this problem or can provide some advice? it would be appreciated, thank you.

Weird, a friend of mine play Skyrim in 1280x1024 and it works fine for her. And unfortunately I'm not sure why it isn't working for you.

Open the Prefs file in My Documents/My Games/Skyrim, find these lines

iSize H=1080
iSize W=1920

Of course, yours should say 1024 and 1280 respectively. If they don't, the launcher has not made any changes to the game resolution. Make the changes here and save the file. See what happens in the game.

Are you using an Nvidia or Catalyst Control Panel? Try disabling those during the game.

I have tested editing the preferences of skyrim but it seems no matter what changes i make skyrim is unaffected, i can mess up the skyrim preference settings all i like e.g put absurd numbers in the resolution text like H=999999 W=99999 but it makes no difference to the actual game including any and all other options. Skyrim is basically ignoring the preferences text file. I use a Nvidia control panel and disabling it made no difference ://

Which file are you editing? You want to edit the one in My Games\Skyrim... not the one in the install folder.
