How many computers do you have?

Post » Sun Jan 05, 2014 11:37 am

And what do you do with them?

I have:

Desktop I built - gaming hooked up to my 50" TV and surround sound in my basemant.

2 year old Lenovo Thinkpad laptop - web browsing/bill paying, occasional work from home, general use

ibook G4 from 2005 - was my college laptop, still works but the battery is shot so it needs to stay plugged in. Use it as a network location to stream music wirelessly to the above PCs.

the Old "Beast" - well taken care of Dell desktop my dad bought back in 2001 or so and just gave to me to use for [censored] and giggles. Fresh install of XP, not hooked up to the internet. Purely to play old games from when I was in middle school.

How many of those do you regularly use/still run well?

like I said, only 3 or 4 of them get regular use (my main gaming rig, the Secondary, my Laptop, and the "Paper-work" PC as needed)..

However, they all potentially work (except the one I am currently building.. as it still lacks a few components)

4 laptops, 8 desktops.

I currently use:

this laptop- browsing, forums, genealogy

very old hard case laptop- drag around cemeteries with a 3G card, genealogy

3 desktops- folding

1 old desktop- set up for DOS games (running 98SE)

That leaves 2 laptops and 4 desktops currently collecting dust. This doesn't include my parts closet or the 5-6 partial or obsolete computers in the basemant (like my first, a 386SX-25 with DOS 6.22 and Windows 3.11).

i have four. one desktop, which i never use. my orignal beat up laptop which i can not understand how i ever tolerated (so many things wrong with it, most of the keys didn't work and the mouse automatically scrolled upward on its own. and i used to play classic games on the thing o_O)

then i have my old new laptop which was a mistake of ever buying since its integrated graphics card didn't really allow me to play any games.

Then i have my new-est laptop which i overpaid for but was worth having high end pc gaming in laptop form so i never have to get out of bed.

One computer that the family uses. My laptop that I use for school and general stuff, and an old ass computer from the 90's that we just haven't bothered to throw away.

8, I think. And I threw away 3 older PCs from the 90s not long ago (my 70s computer and 80s computers are still here though). I regularly just use one computer though, it's the only one hooked up.

And I never ever had a laptop, but I'm starting to leaning towards maybe getting one, some day

I have 3. Only 2 are working right now.

1) Main PC. Used for gaming, video editing, web surfing, and everything else.

2) Back up PC. Used mainly for file storage. (This one I need to replace my CMOS battery, though.)

3) I had set up to my TV to work as better DVR than the one my cable provider has. It died last month (hard disc failure).

[EDIT]

Forgot my laptop. I hardly ever use that one. So that makes 4, I guess, once I get my hard drive trouble rectified.

I have three.

Main desktop running Windows 7, for everyday use and modern games.

Secondary desktop connected to my TV running Windows XP, for older Windows games and light internet use.

Older desktop running DOS/Win95, for retro gaming.

One, I can't imagine why I'd need another.

Just my Surface Pro 2, and it is only a tablet. I just use it for web browsing, playing a little modded New Vegas, and EHR.

Personally, I've got an iMac (all my usual daily use; browsing, word processor/spreadsheet, watching videos, some gaming, etc) and a gaming PC. And a tablet.

Other computers in the household? iMac, eMac, 2 Macbooks, and the remnants of an older desktop Mac (currently acting as a stand for the eMac )

...hmm. Previously owned: Mac SE/30, Mac IIci, PowerCenter Pro/180 mac clone, Powermac G3 or G4, iMac (blue?)

Well, in the case of some people, it's likely that when they upgraded to a new computer, they kept the old ones around. In my case, the iMac is years old, and the only reason I have a gaming PC at all is because I had a windfall (sold ~50 old Magic cards for $900)
