Help Properly Installing Mods

Post » Mon Jan 06, 2014 4:36 pm

I recently got TES Anthology Edition. I have always preferred Morrowind over Oblivion and even many aspects of Skyrim. Since I got a new computer I decided to finaly geek hard on it. I am having a dilemma sorting all these mods I see. Figuring where they go, having duplicate file names. There are things I remember getting to work along time ago. But I want to get the full deal here. I want to do Tamriel Rebuilt. I want to get and add a lot of mods that increase gameplay. Make the game smoother so to say. From graphics, to sound, to the minor details, to the plants being picked instead of opened. But from all the selections.....

I did look at two in depth guides. Both wrote fairly passionetly. One on here. I keep getting broken links, or sent to other pages. Things I do want and DL, end up turning into four files half of which I don't know what to do with.

Any help on this would be very appreciated.

I can talk through Steam, and XBL.

Oh I also have Team Viewer.

Check back on here later.

Did you go through the http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1305729-mod-recommendations-for-new-players/. Lots of info on how/where to find mods, and all the tools and patches you'll be looking for.

http://www.gamesas.com/topic/106063-morrowind-mods-faq/#entry1772866 will help with the basics of how to install, and explain what to do with "all those files"
It applies for most mods. Some use BSAs or auto-installers, but always check the ReadMe file for special instructions.

Under Tools:

Morrowind for 2009 (IDONOTHAVEPERMISSIONTOPOSTLINKS)

Half of the links are broken. Or send you to a site that gives you an option to DL it. Then does not.

That happened to be the second guide. Or first. one of the two.

This is explaining random files all over my desktop.

Why files were in Program Files\Bethesda Softworks\Morrowind\Data Files and not the C drive.

Cool, So meshes, icons, textures and all that need to be moved over. I was Copying and pasteing data files all of it.

It is saying that "mod file".esp Should be put into the datafile. I am seeing other ones to similar, We got um. bsa end esm. Is there a list showing what goes into the datafile?

(this is all reference to morrowind mods faq)btw

Under "How to install mods." 3rd section. I do not under stand ""*DO NOT take the game files out of the "subfolders" as they are indexed by the game engine as being in THAT FOLDER*""

It is saying to move these files over to the other one the game already created. Understood. If a Mesh folder has a mesh folder Does that go in mesh or what?

I was unable to get The better bodies to dl.

Tamriel Rebuilt needed thee oth mods to run. one second.

Was unabkle to DL the texure fix.

The unofficial morrowind patch would open a black screen for the briefest of moment before vanishing.

The graphics extender. I did something the guide said to do. Besides that I had no idea what any of it meant inside of it.

How to post your warnings.... In my morrowind file there was a warning document. With eight or nine things. So bad. But at that time I had only added two, three tops. Those were the official ones.

"weapon replacer" couldn't get tht to work eather.

""(or you are sure that the new mods have creation dates later than any other mods in your list)."" Is this referring to when you added them to the game, the file in morrowind, or what?

Cleaning dirty saves... Im sure I will be looking and reading that later.

Are ini. files important as in there a reference for that particular file of said name?

Kgoodread.

welp.

I suppose it time to go Delete the morrowind file and make/load a backup.

If you find/see/know any more good guides slash walkthroughs for opeople who are not computer literate, I ll be back later.

The "Warnings txt" in the Morrowind directory. Has this

Texture "Textures\_land_default.tga" count 3.
Texture "Textures\menu_thick_border_bottom_right_corner.dds" count 2.

This is a fresh install. No save or mods of anykind.

Normal or is something atctualy wrong?

Perhaps one of the first things you should install is Wyre Mash. (Look for the latest version you can find, or Yacoby's fork. Hopefully, some reader here can give you the proper version number.) It won't help with the graphics extender, but it will do wonders helping you dicover the creation dates and edit your load order until it works.

And, Mlox will give you warnings if mods conflict or if you are missing mod requirements as well as tell you the best load order for the mods you've loaded. If you use Yacoby's Fork version of Wyre Mash, you can start up Mlox from inside the Wyre Mash gui. (I don't know if it works the same from the other version, since I am using Yacoby't Fork.)

""creation dates and edit your load order""

I do not know what this means.^^^^^^^^^ or mlox or gui or what yacobys fork is. He better have a spoon to go with that program right! jk

I got Wyre Mash and it opened a black command prompt.

I am busy readin all these guide/faq with 10-20 links per paragraph. Half of which send me back to the page im on.....

im getting somewhere though.

Under Morrowind Mods Faq.

I Understand how to DL(the ones not broke for a old game) the mods and manualy install probably four fifths.

There is a section listing usefull tools.

Tools:

Enchanted Editor - allows very precise correction of problems but requires some knowledge of ESP/ESS file structure.

ES Search - Search engine that searches by mod title, author, or description from PES, ElricM, TESNexus, and FileFront

mlox - A tool for sorting and anolyzing the plugin load order for TES games

Morrowind for 2009 - A 12-step guide to reinstalling a more graphically appealing Morrowind that works best on higher-end computers

Morrowind on Linux - A guide to installing Morrowind for use on Linux, specifically Ubuntu.

TESAME - fairly easy to use

TESTool - dead simple to use; fixes a variety of common problems

Wrye Mash - not so easy to use, but very powerful; capable of fixing severe savegame problems, managing mods and savegames, etc.

Miss spelling, Im not a grammer Nazi. I mespil erEthang.

Not intentional usualy.

I don't need 6 tools. You said mlox and wyresmash. After I install a mod/s. (From what ive read best to do one at a time. Which will be time consuming.) Ill need to check mark them before being able to play them. Will eather of the tools install for me. Or Tell me which mods I can not use with others? Or the order? One mod changed alchemy ingredient weight to zero. Another put them in a bag. Another let me harvest plants like on newer TES games. How do I know which to use/check/run first. Or which are incompatible. Assuming I have look at the incompatible readme or forum I got it from.

I don't have most of those tools, so I can't really tell you much about them.

I do know that Wrye Mash gui gives you a list of the mods you've got loaded and allows you to re-arrange them by changing the creation dates so that those mods will work better in your game. It also repairs save games, changes and updates masters, tells you when mods conflict and when something's missing. I am not knowledgeable to explain all it does and doesn't do, but the link I gave you will take you to the thread that does describe most of what it can do and how.

Mlox will tell you the proper load order for the mods you have loaded, whether there is a conflict with other mods you have loaded, and if there is a later version of the mod released.

Most of the other tools are for more advanced use, such as if you want to make changes to a mod yourself. I'm not that advanced. I have fixed a problem with Enchanted Editor when I had specific instructions, but I would be hesitant to use it otherwise and definitely would not try to explain it to someone less experienced than I. It does, however have a tutorial you download with it, as does both of the other tools I have recommended. The instructions included with them are very well written and deserve a complete readthrough.

Wrye Mash
Yacoby's Wrye Mash Launcher

Are these two separate programs of the same program? Or THE same program.

As far a graphics extender and sound extender and that jazz. I am still trying to get them downloaded and put in the right areas. I'll look into the wyre now though.

Check the readme or the first post on that link I gave you, but I think it is in the Morrowind folder. But, do check the included instructions for installation to be sure so you won't be just relying on me.
