It's a new year, and with it Tamriel Rebuilt brings good news! A new version of Sacred East (1.6) is close to release, bringing with it about a dozen new quests, as well as a myriad of bug fixes and landscape improvements. Meanwhile, the website and (less noticeably) the development process are getting an overhaul. But let us start with the actual news:

New Alpha From Tamriel Rebuilt!

Tamriel Rebuilt is pleased to open the new year with a brand new massive alpha release. Alpha releases are snapshots of our work in progress, usually comprising an (almost) finished exterior and incomplete interiors, quests and NPCs. This alpha contains content from the west of Morrowind – including the entirety of our Heartland release & the southern half of our Veloth release in terms of Exteriors. It also includes parts initially slated for the Almalexia release that were separated from the city proper, which have a greater level of polish (including interiors and a few NPCs). If you're lucky, you might even find a quest or two! This new game content extends from http://tamriel-rebuilt.org/sites/default/files/images/thirr%20river_roa%20dyr.jpg & http://tamriel-rebuilt.org/sites/default/files/images/thirr%20river_almas%20thirr%203.jpg at the heart of Morrowind to the https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/s/dc3ide00li0gqqb/SwiftShot129.jpg in the west. Where the https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/s/wxed3hpwc7fga1b/SwiftShot129.jpg empties into the Inner Sea lies https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/s/cwu0h5ucs7v25k9/SwiftShot186.jpg, the bastion of Imperial power in Morrowind. Wind your way through the labyrinthine https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/s/hv689tapkoch9by/SwiftShot068.jpg or find yourself waist-deep in muck in the https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/s/wzqh7ipvmvuas8f/SwiftShot038.jpg, where fields of ash-caked parasols grow among https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/s/5de2bu72dvpykgl/SwiftShot040.jpg, forming one of the truly unique regions on the mainland, a teaser of what’s to come! This release also contains the Hlaalu cities of https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/s/lu0s7d94lvlm97f/SwiftShot079.jpg (Stonefalls) and https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/s/iv6yqouwdjgwhaa/SwiftShot032.jpg, as well as the Redoran cities of https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/s/3hh836hm08v9mat/SwiftShot072.jpg and https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/s/lax2h8fc1vonijv/SwiftShot125.jpg, along with numerous other towns and settlements.

Some of you may also recognize part of this work from our previous Heartland alpha; this unofficial release (which includes the previous alpha) contains FAR more landmass & many bug fixes, as well as some interiors and the occasional NPC. It should be kept in mind that we are not yet done making these regions, and some of the progress we have made has not been merged into this alpha. As always, anyone who wants to get involved in populating this land is highly welcome -- please read our http://tamriel-rebuilt.org/?q=content/about and http://tamriel-rebuilt.org/?q=content/join pages, then drop by our forums and http://tamriel-rebuilt.org/forum/viewforum.php?f=203!

Some important things to remember about this release:

- Be sure to delete the previous Heartland Alpha if you still run it! This updates all the land in that alpha, while adding significant portions to the North (Ash Swamp due west of Vvardenfell) and East (the Thirr River Valley) where it joins the existing Sacred East release.

- This is an alpha. There will be bugs! We would love it if you did us the favor of http://tamriel-rebuilt.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=24249. However, don't expect anything to be in a finished state. (Don't worry, you shouldn't expect to fall into the void every couple of steps.) Also, many things are subject to change!

- Major Mod Conflicts: This release conflicts with the Wizards' Island Mod, as well as Silgrad Tower, as they both occupy the new cells added onto this alpha. MGSO should not bring up any major issues, though anyone using Taddeus' rocks will experience issues in Kogotel and Kartur, and in certain regions of the Velothi Mountains.

- Explore at your own perils and backup your save game. Think of the mod as dirty. (You'll certainly want to start the actual Heartland, once it's finished, with a save file that hasn't visited this alpha.)

- This is not all that we've got up our sleeves! There's a lot more done further north of this alpha, and we're also still making progress on Almalexia; as the capital of Morrowind, you know we have to get it finished perfectly.

http://tamriel-rebuilt.org Is Getting A Makeover!

If you've checked on our website over the past few days, you've seen that its undergoing some pretty serious maintenance. In fact, we’ve been hard at work giving TR a completely new face on the web, and, after over a decade, we're finally getting there! We’re still migrating a lot of content over, but the website is now live. It’s got a fresh, new look, an updated image gallery, and lots of changes under the hood. Expect more screenshots, news, and status updates during the coming year on our front page. We certainly hope this new website will help us improve public communication, and allow for more frequent updates.

We also have a https://www.facebook.com/tamrielrebuilt, a http://tamriel-rebuilt.tumblr.com, and a http://www.youtube.com/user/TamrielRebuilt. We encourage you to like us, follow us, and subscribe to us if you use these services, as we will try to cross-post updates to every platform that can support them.

Your Involvement Is Always Welcome!

Any modder who wants to get involved with a project producing lore-inspired content of the highest quality is always welcome at Tamriel Rebuilt. Right now we have a lot of opportunities for NPC makers/dialogue writers and artists who can make 3D models or create concept art. Level designers, especially those familiar with interiors, could also find plenty of things to do at TR.

To wet the whistle of any modelers reading this, here is a list of only some of the things we're hoping to have produced:

  • http://forum.wiwiland.net/uploads/gallery/album_2/gallery_14104_2_5469.jpg
  • http://i.imgur.com/QQdyHex.jpg

Concept art of any kind keeping to the spirit of Morrowind is welcome, creatures especially. (Walk our lands and try to envision the creatures you would like--and be afraid--to encounter!) We are also seeking concept art for the southern part of Morrowind, meaning the Deshaan Plains, the Argon Jungle, and http://imageshack.us/a/img463/8272/tearconcept1.jpg.

There are always plenty of activities requiring varying levels of experience at Tamriel Rebuilt. If you've ever wanted to contribute or see some of your work used in our mod, now is the perfect time! If you're interested, visit our forums and let us know.

And Much More Is Coming...

We'll keep you updated on new events as the year goes on. An update to Sacred East is coming very soon, and work in the other departments is ongoing. We can't wait to see what this year has in store for Tamriel Rebuilt and the TES: III modding community at large. We believe we can accomplish great things!

Since I didn't see it yet, is the new TR website still going to have a tutorial page?
I know I've sent many new modders there to check them out, and I've used them myself in the past. Some very helpful content was there.

Will it still have the name generator, by any chance? :)

Yes! As the post mentions, our new website is still a Work In Progress. We hope to have updated tutorials covering many topics uploaded to a modding data page soon.

This is the plan

Those small Velothi shrines look very intriguing. Might have to tinker around with those...

Oh, and congrats on making it so far! I'm looking forward to exploring some of these new areas. :D

Yes, that generator is great! :D
Use it a lot for my TES modding.

On another note, is Francine really a Breton name? Always wondered.

At TR there's a little bit of discontent with the quality of names that the namegen produces, so we might look into improving it a bit before we get it up and running again. I would consider Francine to be a Breton name, though.

It depends on how lore-correct you think http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Francine_Velain is ;)

I remember the names produced by our name generator being pretty mediocre and never using it for my claims because of this. You're better off looking at the http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Dunmer_Names at uesp wiki and making names similar to what is listed there; either putting different first and last names together or taking syllables from different names and recombining them.

But if people like it, I'm fine with it being re-implemented. It does seem to draw a lot of modders to our website.

Boy, isn't that an understatement :P Over 70% of visits to TR (including the forums) are for the namegen, actually.

This is an amazing mod, and this day is already great for me. I started playing Morrowind for the first time four years ago today. This is an incredible anniversary gift for my Morrowind experience. :thanks:

Almalexia work in underway, with a great number of interior claims available. If you want to help us finish it quicker, then make a showcase so you can start claiming stuff! :)

This is so very great, but why would the oldest city in Morrowind have imperial architecture all over it? This city could possibly be more ancient even than the First Empire.

Also, why Thir river is called Thirr?
