Can I pick 'em? Heck no! 0-4 for the weekend :P

GRATZ! to the Saints, Chargers, Bengals, and 49ers. Every game was a fun game to watch :)

I was so nervous about my Packers that I decided to do some much needed shopping when the game started. I was totally expecting to see a score like 35-10, San Fran leading. When I opened my door (I had left the TV on when I left) towards the end of the 3rd quarter and saw a 13-10 49er lead, I was amazed. Watching the rest of the game was good, though I yelled at the TV a couple of times :)

The Packers defense had a couple of chances to end that last drive and just failed to do so. Good job, San Fran :)

Game winning FG's are the worst. I hate that about the NFL.

No surprise that Capers D folds on the final drive.

I am questioning his "defensive mastermind" title. Green Bay's defense has been so inconsistent for years now. Sometimes, they are ball hogs. Sometimes (most of the time) they are a sieve. Sometimes they hustle to the ball. Sometimes they act like they don't want to be there. I was surprised they held SF to only 23 points. Collin (ain't gonna try to spell his last name :) ) ran for almost 100 yards. A QB running for almost 100 yards. But when they needed to stop them, Green Bay was mostly absent.

Glad to see the 49ers win. Next week is revenge week in the NFC.

Not the only one. There were... [checks poll]... 13 of us? Ha ha, that's the only one I got right for the weekend. Go figure. And the only one decided by more than a field goal. :D Of course I was upfront that the GB-SF game was a coin-flip for me. Good games all round, except for the Bengals being the Bengals.

True, but it's flawed because you can still vote after the game lol.

I don't question his 'mastermind'...but the Packers lack talent on the defensive side of the ball and that isn't likely to change since they commit the bulk of their salary cap to the offense. So they need to take a serious look at whether they will ever be able to be effective with Capers' aggressive schemes.

That last drive is the perfect example. Corner has at least a drive ender that may well have been a pick six hit him in the hands, and drops it. Scheme worked perfectly, but they can't afford the kind of game changing corners it really requires. Edge rusher bites on the pump fake and gives up the edge on third and eleven. The scheme is cover and contain, and worked fine, but failure of execution gives up a first down. Which will continue to happen because guys don't really count on other guys to be able to do their jobs. That guy biting on the pump fake feels like he has to block the pass because he knows there's a good chance somebody in the secondary hasn't been able to stay with their guy.

Overall though Aaron Rodgers summed it up. The defense only gave up 23 points. The Packers are built on the premise that if they allow 23 points they are supposed to win. When you put all your money on the offensive side of the ball that's where you are expecting to produce the result.

Didn't do too bad with my picks. Shame the Bengals phoned it in during the second half. I'll wait til Thurs/Fri to do next picks.

So earlier in the thread I was saying thirty one teams have disappointed fans, but reality is that teams in the playoffs lose to better teams. I still believe that, despite the fact that there are exceptions. The Chiefs aren't an exception. They blew a big lead, but they were playing a better team and they lost. At halftime they might have been expected to finish a 'surprising victory', but ultimately that game went as expected.

The exception is the Bengals. They didn't play a better team. And they not only lost, they got blown out. Bengals fans are justified in saying WTF?

That said:

Dumping a coach that gets you to the playoffs when you are more likely to hire someone who won't than someone who will get you wins there doesn't make sense.

Dumping a QB who is definitely better than the starting QB on at least 10 teams and thinking someone better is going to fall from the sky doesn't make sense.

Anybody got any ideas for these guys?

EDIT: Line of the day from some guy covering the Bengals..."When Marvin Lewis got here the Bengals couldn't even spell playoffs."

Too bad the Niners won't be getting any from the Panthers :P .
Hopeful playoffs:
For the conference championships I've got Patriots vs Chargers, and Carolina vs Seattle.
Super Bowl will be Panthers vs Patriots with the Panthers winning.
Practical:
Conf. Championship: Patriots vs Chargers, Carolina vs Seattle.
Super Bowl: Seattle vs Patriots, Seattle wins.
