Spells at higher levels.

Post » Tue Jan 07, 2014 8:18 pm

What are your thoughts about skills like conjuration, illusion, restoration when you are at the highest levels. Since enemies scale with you, these spells loose their effectiveness (examples). Sometimes you can use potions to make it work, but it feels weird to have to use another skill.

Wouldn't it have made sense for your spells to improve(spells effect higher level enemies) rather than make them cost less? If i'm using spells it doesn't matter how many times i hit somthing with it, it wont work.

Just a little rant. Not saying i have a good solution, maybe they did do it right idk, it just seems weird to me. Thoughts?

Well thats the thing, it doesn't matter what difficulty you are on, since the difficulty doesn't change enemies levels, just the damage the deal and recieve.

Destruction spells work fine on adept at the highest levels. Conjuration and illusion work fine at higher levels as well as higher difficulties because difficulty level only effects your damage not the damage of summons or frenzied opponents to each other.

Im not talking about difficulty level at all. If you get to say level 50, enemies you encounter are often way too high to be raised, turned, pacified, etc.

I thought it should be more or less a percentage to work, raising the skill raises the percentage thus even through later levels your pacify and paralyse spells still work. This would also sort of balance out these types of spells for me because as they are: Working - Godhood, Not working - Don't bother.

Either it works 100% of the time being overpowered or you out grow it rendering half of your spells useless.

high level enemies can be pacified and frenzied if you take the right perks.

As far as conjuration goes, you should just need the highest level raise dead spell available.

Illusion, you don't even really have to use the best spells, you just have to perk the "affects higher level enemies" perks and dual cast.

I don't see it so much as spells lose their effectiveness but that you have to be more sophisticated as you progress through the game. It would make no sense if a low level summons was as effective on level 50 enemies as it was on level 2 enemies. I don't see any issue with using potions to prime an enemy before a spell or enchanted weapon - it's logical that you would apply combinations to take down tougher opponents. Otherwise why call it "Level 50" when fights are exactly the same as at "Level 10"?

You can make Destruction work at high levels, its just hard. I wish they just formatted it better. I cant stop using it

Demora lords and a maxed out Illusion skill tree are still very effective on a higher difficulty.

That's not true. Normal humanoid enemies that levels with you (from bandits and vampires to falmers) have a level cap all below 40ish, so (dual) casting your best illusion/conjuration/restoration spells should be able to consistently fear/rage/raise/turn the majority of enemies that you face. For your reference: dual casting the best expert fear/calm/frenzy spell with all the relevant perks can affect anything (including undead) at max at around level 80, while the highest level bandit is 28, falmer 48 (bosses are 54), and vampire is 60.

The only exception is a few NPC who constantly level up as you, who are so few that I don't even remember anyone of them.

Conjuration and illusion can effect all, if perked right. (Except Dragons, Illusion can't directly effect them)
