Never played an Online game

Post » Wed Jan 08, 2014 6:15 am

Hi

I am newbie in here, hi folks. I love Skyrim and would be interested in anything that is similar game. However, I never played multiplayer( I did try few times- WOW, Neverwinter nights, Mass Efffect 3, Lara Croft). My question would be to you guys- will I be able to play, kind of like single player, just exploring, doing quest on my own, not being killed by random thug etc. I don't mind to pay, or play multiplayer, but I would like to play kind of single player style. Is it really even possible. Sorry for my newbiness.

There is no Single Player mode. You do not have to be in a group, but you will always be in the same world-space as other players. Also, a fair amount of the endgame content is group-related.

You will also be unable to explore everything without levelign to the correct levels as nothing is going to be scaling based on level., also the leveling system is more like most RPG's where doing quests is going to be the main of way leveling up.

You will be able to do this (solo-gaming), yes, but with some changes compred to TES single player.

I will do it also the one or other evening, when I'm not in the frame of mind to communicate with other players, help other players or because I just want to realize my plans (getting crafting materials, finalizing quests, whatever) and so I don't need something more than the game itself.

You will be able to play in a solo 'sense', there is no single player mode however, but if you want to play solo, you can, the limitations will be you'll be unable to enter group dungeons, because as it suggests, they require a group to complete (although you might be able to solo them at a higher level).

One of the main things they focused on was to enable a good form of exploration, so you can indeed explore, but again you're limited to your characters level, so at level 10 you won't be able to go to other factions zones, however once you're level 50 you can go to other factions zones, so you will eventually be able to go most places.

I would also say give some multiplayer a chance, you can stumble across some people you might become friends with, and then the enjoyment of the game will increase so much more, look for guilds to join pre-game to get a sense of the community and start making friends already, check Tamriel Foundry for guild recruitment.

Good choice on Mass Effect as well (Best three games ever) :gun:

Have ye therefore all the fishy sticks! http://users.content.ytmnd.com/9/6/d/96dec295c5bfc653282838034bab00bf.jpg

This is why I think ZOS's decision to limit PvP to Cyrodiil was such a smart move. No-one's gonna attack you while you're questing around Tamriel, and you're certainly not forced to group up with anyone. You're completely free to quest solo. That said, there will be other people there. Others will often attack the same mob you're fighting, and resources/chests etc will often have been looted before you get there. There are ways to get around it sometimes (the megaserver sure helps), but especially in areas like the starter zones, you'll have to get used to being part of a crowd.

So yeah. They've done a lot to make ESO work for everyone, but it still depends on whether or not you're fine with not being the only kid in the playground.

Well that is a matter of taste TBH. There are reality many players including me that find it entertaining to have a bit of survival mode with allowing PvP any where. So not sure if it's the best idea ever. But at least they won't scare off any MMO newbies that way.

I never said it would be everyone's cup of tea. It could *never* be, that's another one of those fool's errands I seem to keep talking about here.

I only said that it was a smart move, as it is the least alienating, and thus most inclusive approach they could take.

I agree with Sunrock or the second time today. Open PvP environments/servers can be quite entertaining for some players as long as there are regulations to avoid permanent PKs / CC (corpse camping).

And, it brings soul to the environment, because honestly, it's war out there. This is (one of) my personal regrets for GW2 and one of the fail reasons. Everything was equal, everything was anonymous. 3 factions, but with all races included. This was so weird, there was/is no soul, just the "realm X defender" attacking you. But I want to see "Sunrock" on the enemys nameplate, because than it's starting to get fun, seriously. :-)

But, personally, in ESO it's fine, I'm bit too old for this permanent adrenalin rush anyway in the meantime, but, I had a lot of fun with this kind of open pvp and permanent war zone in the past and I don't want to miss this gaming experience.

Yea but always doing what is least alienating usually does not produce the best results. That is what I mean that it's maybe not that smart as the game can easily become too blend. Worst thing that can happen is that people will find the game boring after a month or two.

If ESO had OPVP, i would not play it. I do not mind when there are servers, and you can choose to do it. IMHO, OPVP is a dieing breed, fewer and fewer people want to be ganked by someone 40 levels higher than them, it is not fun in anyway and i play games to have fun.

The way they did it is the best possible way to do it. you can do it when you want to be in a battle zone but if you are not into that or do not want to deal with it at the moment, then you can just not be in Cyrodil.

I agree they met an awesome middle ground, for the TES fans who want to wonder around without the risk of being mauled, which I will do sometimes, and then the solid PvP zone is your survival mode.

I agree, I do not like being killed when I am mood for questing or getting craft supplies. If and when I became interested in PVP, I will head to that zone. I do not get that mood very often. With that being said, how about the idea of "request dual" in any part of the world? If one says, "NO" then there is no PVP and if one says "YES," then one can have an one on one battle. In that way, PVP is not forced on you in PVE zones.

I'm in the same opinion nowadays, in the past I liked it and I also played this kind of open pvp on defined pvp servers where the war was always present. This was nerve streching in a positive sense.

But, meanwhile the pvp areas are usually seperated. Just look at the MMOs out there, it's not new, it's a logical consequence due to the demand of the community and the majority will argue like we are doing this now.
