What brought you to Fallout?

So, this thread is simple. What brought you to the Fallout series? For me, it was a friend recommending Fallout 3, mentioning how he had to go to a grocery store to scavenge food from raiders. That sounded interesting so I asked about the game, then bought it and fell in love with it. Afterwards I worked my way backward when I found the Trilogy pack at Target, then I bought New Vegas. I have played all five Fallout games. (There are ONLY five. :stare: ) I think that's why it's harder for me to hate Fallout 3 than some of the others here who started before 3, since Fallout 3 brought me to this series that is, to me, a timeless gaming series

What's your story of getting into Fallout?.

I was 14 I think and saw that the people who made Oblivion were making some kind of post-apocalypse, sci-fi shooter and was damn interested; like BioShock I was hooked from the first article I read and knew this would be my big thing, everything about it's aesthetics and look just appealed to me. But being a guy who likes him some context I picked up Fallout 2 in August of 2008 to get some background on the game's world and setting, that's obviously were I first encountered the Enclave (spoiler alert, I quite like them) and was actually pretty thrilled to be seeing them in 3d, getting to see the world of Fallout in 3d and having some fun RPing like in Oblivion. Then when Fallout 3 hit the shelves and I played it I wasn't as impressed as I thought I'd be, enjoyed the heck of the game but it was one of diminishing returns and Broken Steel was the final insult.

Maybe one of these days I'll play Fallout 1

Funny story about the Enclave, when I first played Fallout 3 and got out of the Vault (Keep in mind I knew absolutely nothing of the lore), I heard Enclave Radio and thought 'Wow, these guys are going to be the heroes, I can't wait to help them out!', little did I know they were a two dimensional evil faction. :sadvaultboy: (Writing wise)

A friend of our table top rpg group recommended Fallout 1 to me as it came out. I hated computer rpg's at this time because I thought they where to limited. A bit I felt the same way in FO1 & FO2 too. Still I had fun back then because I loved the post apocalyptic feeling.

Many years later I stumbled on the first promotion picture of Fallout 3 (destroyed captiol building concept art) and I thought I have to try this game when it comes out. I had completly forgotten about Fallout 1 / 2 back then. Tried several RPGs (including Oblivion) and didn't like them (my opinion hasn't changed that much as I grew older  ). As Fallout 3 came out I bought it without thinking and fell in love again :fallout: .

So sorry no Fallout 3 hate from me. I love them all for different reasons also the burned game (you need a ugly child  ).

I was, and am, a huge fan of The Elder Scrolls. After playing Oblivion I started looking into other RPGs in the same vein. When Fallout 3 was announced, I was immediately interested and picked it up.

It was 2001, I had just finished Baldur's Gate II: Throne of Bhaal and decided to look up other RPGs in the same mold as the Baldur's Gate games. This led me to Icewind Dale, Planescape: Torment, and of course Fallout and Fallout 2 which I had heard people talk about before but never actually sat down and played. I tried out the demo of Fallout and enjoyed it, so I went out and bought the dual jewel case that contained both Fallout and Fallout 2 and played through them. I wasn't really the fan back then that I am today because back then I was an obnoxious adolescent who had no appreciation for themes and world building, but that's how I got into the franchise.

Back when I was much younger and was an amateur at video games did I play only a few select amount of games on a computer. I still remember one of my favorites being a dinosaur hunting game. Anyway, it was my older brother that began playing Fallout and I just sat behind him watching him play, and I always thought the talking heads were the greatest thing ever. I eventually ended up playing it myself and soon after I was gifted Fallout 2. I had forgotten about the series for some time until Bethesda (I had already been a fan of their games after Morrowind and Oblivion) had Fallout 3 going. I may just say that it was possibly Fallout that made me a "real" gamer. That, and RTS games. Stronghold is awesome.
