Option to disable auto-aim? (For those of us that want it)&#

Post » Sat Jan 11, 2014 4:29 am

Hey guys,

Just wondered what other people would think about such an option as "disable auto aim" existing, for those of us that really do love the rush of landing a clutch headshot at the right moment, and firing from awkward positions and compensating for projectile drop, etc.

I can understand that auto-aiming is there for MMO reasons, and that it will help those who suffer from lag ussues, but what about the rest of us? :tongue:

Other than that the game is great, it really is what I expected apart from the personal dissapointment of not being able to shoot zombies in the crotch and seeing the comically placed arrow in the corpse of my enemy... :3

Please for the love of god don't turn this thread into a rage fest, I really am after not only supporters of this option being put into the game, but also conversation about the issue, possible alternatives, related ideas. Etc.

(And I do understand that such a thing as manually aimed abilities/arrows probably won't be supported by the game engine. And that it isn't what the game is about. And that it's still alpha/beta. But hey, gotta dream huh?..)

It would be amazing if an addon could achieve what me and my friends are after, but that's just for the UI isn't it?

I just don't feel as though I'm contributing to hitting them.

It wouldn't work with the current technology implemented into ESO. The calculations and everything are done server side, the technology you want or are looking for is client side calculations which can easily be turned into hacks and exploits.

^ @Dog; This is what I'm talking about guys. Angry people need to be shunned.... T.T ^

But to answer your question dog, I think the logical answer would be that a clever person would turn it off for PvP should need be.

Although keeping it on would add to the difficulty, which is what people sometimes crave as their experiences with games develop.

@Garbrac:

Yeah, but one can dream... One can dream... :'(

Also, it's beta! :3 *crosses all appendages*

There really isn't an auto-aim in the way I think you are using the term. In ESO you still have to be aiming at your target to hit it. There is some leeway and its not as tight as say a FPS game to account for lag, but bottom line is that in order to hit your intended target you have to be Aiming at it.

@Pangscar;

I've come across a few people that've said the same thing, what I'm talking about is I can aim the curser at the floor or to the side of a highlighted foe, and it will still shoot them, it infuriates me. :(

I think it's a matter of getting used to a game doing what I want to do, which is shoot things in the head, or atleast aim directly at them with the curser and feel as though I'm contributing to hitting them.

My concern is, can you shoot a projecticle without enemies in range?

Say I am too far to target a certain enemy. But I shoot in his direction. Will it travel and possibly hit him? Can an army of mages shoot fire balls into the distance and can a person walking by get hit by one?

I understand the soft lock tech they are using. But is there such a thing as shooting in a random direction and have a unfortunate enemy walk into your strike?

More than likely the hit boxes are quite large to compensate for bad aim ;)
