Are Autosaves Reliable?

Post » Sun Jan 12, 2014 5:25 pm

Use Autosaves a lot. Usually if my Xbox freezes or the power goes out (I live in the Electric City, yet our power goes out often), I can rely on an Autosave.

But are Autosaves more glitchy? Is it just better to use hard-saves I use myself? Otherwise, what's the point of having Autosave on?

They're somewhat reliable. But I've found that manual saves are much better and more efficient when it comes to dealing with bugs. That's why I always save before a loading screen that leads to a missions, before a new cell, before a dungeon, and after a dungeon.

With Skyrim being unpredictable at times, you can't take a chance.

Just got hit with the glitch during the Forwsorn Conspiracy where what's-his-nuts is dead and I can't go any further with the quest. My autosaves didn't go back far enough for me to reload without losing more than I want to. I usually save manually but I wanted to get done asap. I done goofed.

Bottom line, I'd go with manual saves.

I was talking about do Autosaves cause glichtes/bugs more often, or is it virtually the same thing as a manual save.

Like, if I reload an Autosave VS a manual save, which is more prone to bugs/glitches, or is it the same either way?

Both work fine, you should not only have one save + auto saves, but having them is still fairly useful.

For whatever reason, autosaves are glitchy for the Fallout series, but are fine for TES. They have no glitches that are not user or mod related.

Never had a problem with the auto-saves, but like Shadow_Titan17, I maually save...alot during "large" quests and often otherwise, specially when "outdoors". That has saved my bacon more than once.

Autosaves and quicksaves were potentially glitchy in Morrowind and Oblivion. The advice for years has always been to avoid autosaves and quicksaves at all costs in those games. But my experience is that Skyrim is different in this regard. I have not yet seen any evidence that autosaves or quicksaves cause the same kinds of problems in Skyrim that they caused in Morrowind and Oblivion.
