New Vegas suddenly wont start despite no mod changes.

Post » Tue Jan 14, 2014 6:10 am

Last night i was playing new vegas. It was working perfectly for hours. No crashes at all. Today i turn on my computer and see the the 4gb shortcut link had been deleted from the desktop. It also deleted all the 4gb files from the New vegas files. I reinstall it and start the game.

It gets to the main menu and i see the DarnUI settings are off. The text is out of place. I redo the fonts like it says in the thread. I also change bLoadFaceGenHeadEGTFiles to 1 since it reset itself to 0.

Now it wont load at all. It crashes as soon as it gets to the main menu. No one had touched the computer between last night and now. It just somehow reset everything itself?

At this point, I would use System Restore and go back 24 hours. That should get everything back.

Nothing about the game or mods should ever delete anything from your machine, especially stuff that is part of your profile which is where you get your desktop from.

To that end, did anyone make a new profile on your machine and that's why your desktop looks all weird?

Looked at about doing a system restore, but the nearest one was two days ago. I really should do a regular maintenance. I seen that half of the DarnUI fonts were missing in the textures folders. I reinstalled it and now it works, but i cant help but wonder what else had deleted. I got a warning saying that the weapon mod menu files were missing so there is obviously more missing. I wonder what caused this?

Do you use an automated clean up program or Windows' built-in feature? It might cause weirdness.

The only thing you will lose are system updates. I have even gone back two weeks on my machine before. SR has fixed more things for me than I care to think about, considering the alternatives. Heck, SR even fixed a botched update to FOMM, and this is installed in a NON UAC directory.

Ohh, the Desktop Clean Up Wizard. Hate that thing. And, you have to dig deep to find the way to shut that down too.
