So you want an Epic MMO

Post » Tue Jan 14, 2014 2:05 pm

What ESO needs to be an epic winfall and mmo of the millennium:
1. Skyrim themed medieval style advlt graphics and combat. Give us a sword and let us chop into monsters with it. No 2d paddlepop lion cartoon garbage for wiggles fans.
2. A focus on Themepark PVE for advlts. Epic player vs environment content for leveling and raiding, with all faction controlled cities and zones true open world so you can venture at yur peril. Cyrodil should have been an open world contested area with its own cities and villages. PVP should happen naturally. Not some phased battleground where you drive siege engines and run between lumber mill and mine with a flag for alliance points. Sandbox PVP is for kindergarten. That garbage should not even be a part of this game.
3. Include some sick giant scale monsters for epic large group PVE. Hacking away at a giant monsters foot can be badass too you know. All you have to provide is a modern graphics engine and realistic physics aka dark souls with badass looking monsters. Collision and weighted attacks helps. Not transparent 2d balloon dragons and dancing pandas. Noone wants to fight regular sized mobs all day. 24 people trying to beat down 1 regular sized mob or a bunch of regular sized mobs all day every day will be weak.
4. An Epic Trinity. Tank, Healing and Dps. While every class should be able to wear any armor and hold any weapon, you should be forced to spec your character a particular way so that you can only fulfill one specific role of the trinity at any time. There should be some imagination for hybrid specs but if your not a tank and the boss clean hits you then you should be dead. This makes for the most epic battles and strategies involving communication between players where everyone has an important role. Free for all random garbage where everyone can tank, heal or dps is fail.
5. Damage meters. They are the only way a player can determine how their skills fair to other players in the game and that is a key element for an mmo. The numbers also reinforce the trinity in a group experience. How you play as an individual and fulfill yur role is massively important. How much damage can you take. How much damage can you deal. How much healing can you give. When noone knows it is a blind and lame experience. Why bother wearing out your fingers doing crazy combos wit potions noone is ever going to know. You may aswell be playing wit one hand and eating a cheeseburger.
6. Dedicated servers with real populations that persist and grow. You have a real presence in these worlds. A mega-server is fake. It is essentially just a dungeon finder for every zone, and the interaction between players will be even less. Its like your playing a single player game but you can see other people running around. There is no interaction between instantly generated populations that are constantly changing with some random mofo replacing you as soon as you step into the next zone. Half the time players may not even be seeing the same things. Total strangers do not interact with one another and its way too obviously fake.
7. Each monster in the world should only have 1 loot table. This mechanic is essential for an epic mmo. There should be competition over loot and a conundrum do you try to kill the monster yourself which is more dangerous and will take longer but you acquire all the spoils and xp, or do you ask for help and group up which is easier and faster but then split the spoils and xp. This is a key mechanic that make players aware of each other. However with a multi-loot system, players ignore each other and everyone wins regardless of being in a group so there is no need for them. There is no point in trying to solo monsters or traverse an area by yourself for the challenge of it because there is no additional reward and random mofos will just run up and start beating on your mobs anyways. There is no penalty mechanic to stop that. Its just going to be a zergfest with random players all day every day. Mega-servers and multi-loot systems are ultra weak and have no soul.
8. The game should be really hard. You will smash you computer and throw it out the window then go buy a new one and be back playing the next day. Thats an epic mmo. The game should not be a play and win snoozefest and it should not take 32 hits before you die to an equally equipped mob.
9. A subscription is needed. With a subscription model people are paying to get a top notch mmo and if the company dont deliver then people will stop subscribing. Another advantage is that every item in the game can only be attained by playing it. If you want some fluro boardshorts then go kill 1000 elite wolfs to get them from the super rare surfer wolf. And if you cant afford a subscription then go throw a frisby around outside. Free to play games are garbage because they are funded by cash shops tryna sell xp boosts or fairyfloss weapons and goofy mounts and yur not playing the game to get those things yur just buying them with yur moms cc card. Thats fail.

I have not played the game yet i seem to be the only person without a beta key.
This is just a list of elements i want in the game along with the respective elements that i dont want.

I hope the game will be awesome but it seems like they only have point 1 and 9 :/
Thats a real concern imo!

Wow, scale it down some. And that text is difficult to read; use the normal white instead of teal on a black background X(

Many of the things you state may in fact be true... Oh god, you're going to make me do this aren't you...

Ok then. Here is my response to each statement...

1. The game is far from a 2D game. It is 3D and you can chop stuff up. You can also smash stuff with hammers, maces and mauls.

2. Once you hit level 50, you can do level 50+ and then level 50++ effectively allowing you to travel to the other factions territories... The keeps aren't something that has really been done before (at least from what I have heard of); they should be very fun and exciting, not to mention how much teamwork it will take to capture a keep... Also, I would also say that PvP occuring "naturally" ends up with the lower level getting upset because they just got PKed and interrupted by a higher level or higher levels (more than one PKer). Controlled PvP can be very exciting.

3. We have very limited footage of what we can really fight. There may be in fact giant monsters that takes a team to take it down. I have yet to see balloon dragons or pandas. *cough* I do actually know this *cough*.

4. Without saying how I actually know this, I know that it takes someone in heavy armor to take hits; mages and DPS don't last very long if they are getting beat on.

5. There are damage meters. Yes there are, believe me.

6. They try to cut down on the "fakeness" with the mega servers. How realistic are multiple servers anyways? True, there are people that you can't see are running around, but wouldn't that make your wanted "single player experience" even worse?

7. The instances or "dungeons" in the game are private, just like they are in WoW. Go into one of these on your own and there will be no one else to help you. The loot mechanic they have is wonderful; everyone gets something from killing a monster/boss. The game also caters to what the game thinks they want, so it cuts down on the obsessive grinding while going dungeons. There is also no dungeon that you can "solo" unless you are completely overpowered. And if you could, there would be little to reward for an overpowered player

8. The game may not be extremely challenging; if you want that then go wait for Dark Souls II. But there are challenging aspects of the game, maybe not all of the challenging aspects of that game are PvE, but go to PvP and tell me there is no challenge. And my computer cost me $1100 to build, this thing is my baby, there will be no smashing of it whatsoever.

9. (Finally!) I don't really understand this because ESO IS a subscription based game? Also, I can name multiple F2P games that are smashing successes. Oh what's that? you want proof? Ok then.

Planetside 2 (my 2nd favorite game of all time)

Path of Exile

Neverwinter

Dota 2

League of Legonds

World of Tanks

Warframe

Age of Conan

War of Roses

Everquest

Tribes: Asend

D&D online

Rift

All of your arguments are pretty invalid. With some ACTUAL research, like with what I have done, you will see how flawed your thinking really is.

So next time... Do some research... Or not, It's your choice. This is the internet, you are faceless (despite your avatar), and you can be as ignorant as you want.

Just understand Ignorance carries on over into real life.

to be fair, 1, 2, 3 and 8 have some merit to them.

All are a matter of opinion  I would disagree with the presuppositions underlying all of em.

People want different things from a game. I certainly don't want to play the game the OP is proposing, aside from 9

So, according to number 4, you want only 3 possible roles? That's stupid.

What about stealth, crowd control, etc? From what I've heard, there a lot of possibilites other than just those 3.

And why should PvP be a "themepark" (on rails) experience? Sounds like you want WoW: TES edition.

I disagree with most of your points, and numbers 1 and 5 in particular show you are woefully under-informed. Please, do some research. The QuakeCon gameplay video shows PvE combat.

Although I'm happy with the subscription.
