Activation Keys.

Post » Wed Jan 15, 2014 11:43 am

Hey everyone just arguing with a buddy of mine whether or not there will be a required activation key for the console version of TESO. He seems to believe he will be able to eventually gamefly it for his ONE(though im trying to tell him otherwise) We are both going to be picking it up for pc on launch day anyways. However just want to clarify this for him since hes arguing pretty hard against it.

Now Ive been playing mmos my whole life. (there have been and in my mind ALWAYS will be an activation key for an mmo) Played FF11 on ps2 activation key, Played in on 360 Activation Key. Played Dc Universe on console before f2p Activation key. Anyways you get my point.

Im sure im right and he has no clue what he is talking about but can anyone confirm this 100%? Maybe a reply from Devs on the issue. Or if there is another threat regarding this im sorry and please direct me to it.

How else would you tie a game to an account without some activation method? I am not sure of any other method that would work for this. I am not talking about verifying identity or signing in, but keeping it so those who purchase the game can set up one account only.

Simple; does gamefly have Final Fantasy Realm reborn for rent? (answer is no)

Can't rent a subscription.

Like any other MMO that has made its way to consoles, I can't see why TESO wouldn't have an activation key...

It's really the only sure way they know that you aren't simply passing your game around to everyone you know, amongst other security related issues.

No, OP; most likely TESO will definitely have an activation key for the Xbox One/PS4.

Thank you everyone for the replies. I know im right but for some reason he is out to prove me wrong lol. If that were the case essentially console gamers could make infinite free accounts.

For some people, it's more important to win than be right. Which is a good reason for PvP......

Hard to argue with that, Ive been playing mmos for 14 years though. This is me trying to convert him into finally playing them with me since he is die hard single player only rpgs. (I got him to play Neverwinter with me though) In the end I guess it doesnt much matter since well both be playing on pc anyways and why he would even want to get it for the console couple months after initial release is beyond me anyways.

Reading grey text on a black background is oh-so-easy.. If you'd like to have your posts read--as I assume you do since you're posting on a public forum--by more people, I suggest not specially coloring your text unless you're trying to emphasize a specific point. Needless to say I didn't read this as there's not enough contrast to easily read it.

To the OP, just ask him to provide an example of a sub-based console game that works like he's saying. Then ask him what lead him to this conclusion. After he thinks about it surely he can come up with the correct result on his own.

This is to your benefit; if you beat him you can be like "I don't even PVP man and you got OWNED" where as if you lose it's like "its ok; I don't play for PVP so you got a free handicap"

I just dropped it altogether, no matter why I say to him to get him to understand thats just the way it works for sub based games hes going to argue against it.

"I would purchase for PC and Gamefly it for the Xbox One. If you're trying to tell me that there is gonna be a "One Time Code" for ESO for console it will never happen. Every money hungry company *cough*EA*cough* has dropped that aspect as well as everyone else."

Direct quote for him. He then went on to say that was coined as a last gen thing. And it wont be happening with them. *shrug"

Your friend makes no kinda sense, sorry. If you can get it on PC why on earth would you want it on Xbox One?

And you will need to purchase and sub on console. It won't be up for rental. They can rent the disc, sure, but you won't be able to play without an account.

Actually, i take that back, he can rent it, for $60 for the first month and then $15/mo after that. That's kinda like a rental.

Then tell him to get his Gamefly subscription set up now so it's good and ready for when he needs it for ESO. Then just laugh at him when it doesn't work.
