Why do you worship who you worship?

Post » Wed Jan 15, 2014 7:53 am

Just wondering why people pick the god/Daedra they worship. Do you pick them based on what they're the god of? Or do you pick them based on the location of their shrine? Or because of the bonus they give you for worshipping them?

I personally have kind of moved towards worshipping Julianos with my current character cause I like the extra magica I get from his bonus.

Azura because she cares for her followers.

Myself because I'm awesome.

The True Nord pantheon + Talos because because.
And Azura because she/he/it is like a mother to the Dunmer.

Azura has never really struck me as being really altruistic. Of course, by Daedra standards shes like Ghandi and Mickey Mouse rolled together into one, but she's no Mara or Dibella.

@Michael , Talos might as well be in the Nordic pantheon considering how important he is now to Nords :P

Anyhow, Siegmeyer worships Talos predominately (shouting bonus ftw), but is also a close follower of Akatosh (a bit odd for a True Nord, but Akatosh DOES grant the gift of Dragon blood after all.) as well as Kyne and Shor and the rest of the Nordic pantheon.

No one!

But my characters have a fondness for Mara and Kynareth. But no one was really "that" into worship for any god, except my Paladin of Mara, they just put a small offering at their little altar each morning.

Ulfius worships Talos, as Talos is said to be the god of, among other things, questing warriors. Ulfius serves the people of Skyrim with noble deeds of arms in part to atone for his past of bloodshed for the sake of it (along with indulging in boatloads of booze and trollops) as a Legionnaire.

Narienne worships Mara, who is the goddess of altruistic love and compassion, because as a Thalmor agent, she had none. She also serves the people of Skyrim in atonement for the atrocities she took part in during the sack of the Imperial City.

I've a thing for prodigal son/daughter stories :)

Aserun Nashida, all eight divines. That's right he just said ALL EIGHT. What you going to do about it?

Rashir Nashida, none. He abandoned the divines a long time ago and doesn't even worship Sithis like many of those who do cruel deeds.

Ignis [Breton] naturally the only two people of wisdom of knowledge. Hermeus Mora and Julianos. Scholars of time. Mages delight. That's why.

My current character, Fulk Nerra is a Breton Battlemage who worships Julianos as well. This is the first time I've used a Breton in any TES game, and the first Julianos worshipper I've made in Skyrim.

My Nord Sorcerer worships nobody. He is Ysmir. The gods owe him their favor so that he can complete his divine mission. He reveres Tiber Septim.

My Breton Crusader is a priest of Akatosh. He worships Magnus and Meridia on the side.

My Redguard Spellsword worships the HoonDing, Sep, Tall Papa, and respects Satakal.

My current character worships Namira, he wears the ring and usually travels with Eola. He's a bit of a strange guy. Done the DB quests and have now started Dawnguard as a vampire but am quickly running out of direction for him sadly.

Vahr dreh Zu'u ofan grik werid wah kul do Aka-Tusk? Zok mul Alduin, in do pah?

Is it not the Dragon. whom embodies immortality, invincibility, and divinity? Should we not strive for such perfection in our miserable squalor of our pitiful lives? Alduin, Divine of Divines offers much to the weak whom give praise to he, Father of Dov. Look upon his chosen devotees, the Dovah Haar, the Dragon Priests of old. As immortal and unaging as our rightful masters in the sky. To him we give praise, to us he gives power. Look upon the faithful of old, the Qethgaaf, the Draugr, so worthy they were, and faithful they are, death is but an obstacle. They live yet, forever devoted, forever loyal, forever strong, forever living.

To you Alduin, I give praise. For he gave to us the life we take for granted. And when judgement comes, he will take our existence away. He will devour us all, and usher forth a new kalpa, with new possibilities.

To you Alduin, I give praise. For without you, the universe would stagnate. It is you whom gives life where there is no hope for life. When we grow complacent and unruly in our ungrateful squalor and consumption, we can count on you to make things new again.

To you Alduin, I give praise. Father of the beautiful and immortal Dov. Your children fly in the sky ever graceful. Rule they must, for we are unworthy. What good is our rule, subject to mortality?

To you Alduin, I give praise. It is your merciless judgement that makes us strong. Devourer of even the Daedra. None shall escape your verdict.

Spoiler

From hence forth he did come.

Alduin, Firstborn of Akatosh we called!

Sundered from Aetherius, his home,

Shined his dark benevolence upon us all.

From the ancient frozen land,

Alduin Bane of Kings he is known.

The death of savage kings at hand,

Upon our eyes his holy throne.

And when we called forth for him,

Alduin, Son of Akatosh responded!

Arrogant mortal's pride did dim.

Treacherous heathens were so despondent.

Banished from realm by traitors!

Alduin the World Eater lay defeated.

Loyal Hevnoraak would not forsake our creator!

The crimes of savages would not be repeated!

From hence forth he did come once again!

Alduin, Firstborn of Akatosh is here!

The Elder Scrolls did portend.

The treacherous Nords have fear!
