I haven't seen any official information on a bard guild so I thought i'd throw out my idea for it to see what kind of general feedback I get. There will be multiple suggestions that would add to overall economy, combat depth, and immersion.
Add bard guild where you level up by either playing music in public venues or using skills (buffs/shouts) in combat. Have the guild issue daily and monthly missions to guild members for playing music to a certain amount of people etc etc. A player skills up instruments individually but skills up bard guild with any instrument.
Do not force players to run around in combat with a flute to use bard skills. Let them act more like class skills that can be casted with any weapon equipped. ( The bard can pull out a flute as part of the skill animation. )
Be able to easily import prerecorded music into the game for bards to play as well as make instruments playable manually. Increase buff effect if played manually.
Add a new instrument crafting line or add instruments to existing crafting lines i.e. primarily wood instruments into woodworking, metal ones into smithing etc.The creator of the weapon customizes the traits on the instrument. Instruments are also enchantable.
Star Wars Galaxies Cantinas - When a bard plays his music, a bystander can choose to receive that bard's buff. The bystander can then choose to tip the bard some amount of gold. Have option for bards to over buff or overcharge their buff slightly to reward tippers. Could add a small bonus to buffs being given in taverns.
How to determine buff effect. The magnitude and duration of the buff should depend on the bard's bard guild skill as well as his skill with the specific instrument. The stats that the buff actually gives depends on the type of instrument being played as well as what additional traits and enchantments are on the instrument. Allows a bard to custom be able to give out multiple types of buffs and custom tailor his buff to what his listener wants.
Allow synchronized playing of the same song for a group to form a band for bonuses to either duration or magnitude of the individual buffs that each of them are putting out.
There would have to be some sort of system in place for a player to only hear a certain number of bards at a time or maybe only the bard he is looking at to prevent hearing a mash up of 50 songs and being an audio mess.
There you have it. Some good fluff that stays true to the game. Populating taverns and making towns more lively adds to immersion. Adds more to the economy and the additional buffs and shouts that can be used in combat can add more diversity to builds and therefor depth of combat. Thoughts?
