Cyrodiil's giant roads

Post » Fri Jan 17, 2014 3:50 am

Doesn't everyone notice this? The roads are sometimes to big that at least 3 carriages(Skyrim based) could be put next to eachother, and still fit. It makes me feel so small sometimes.

Btw, is there any mod that adds something more to the roads? I tried crowded roads but it didn't work out well. I'm already playing 20fps.

Yes, but still no use for them xD. Could someone explain the deathly silent atmosphere in this game? So many forts are haunted or inhabited by creatures. Also, the empty roads, and the abandoned mines? (The only used mine was property of a landlord IIRC)

Not sure if it all depends on time constraints or if it would have been too much for our machines to handle back then if roads were crowded and all. The haunted forts and abandoned mines serve as dungeons for us to raid whilst having fun killing things. It would have been nice to see at least some forts and mines operational, but I guess we just can′t have everything right off the bat ;)

Well, I have a regular gaming PC from 2004 and it's playing Oblivion on full distand(land, building trees), bloon lighting, medium tex, no shadows, 800x600
I also have MMM and OOO installed with dangerous roads and increased spawns, still I'm reaching 25FPS. I don't think it was because of the systems.

you want to feel even smaller? run through some of the countryside meadows and watch those flowers, reeds, bushes and grass swallow you whole, lol.

Then I′d guess time and money were issues. Devs never can implement as many things as they′d really like.

Very true. Same story as Oblivion's MQ. Epic idea, bad performed. You can feel it in the game that they didn't take their time for some things. But, a company is a company, and companies need money. We can't have everything xD

The infrastructure in Cyrodiil is crumbling, law has broken down (bandits lurk everywhere), some of the roads are no longer even patrolled. The forts are all old and long-abandoned (unneeded, of course, since there have been no wars in long memory.) The legions have little discipline; a lot of the lazy louts spend their days drinking in the various saloons.

The long reign of the Septim dynasty has brought the Empire to this point. They have been poor rulers.

It kind of contradicts the lore. The septim dynasty has always worked, after the death of the Mad King. Everything in Tamriel became better since that moment(with the exception of Black Marsh and the Red Mountain). Right? So why the beep are there haunted forts and abandoned mines? As if wraiths are going to protect cyrodiil. Especially at daylight

All they had to do was:
Replace goblins with bandits/friendlies in mines.
Keep only undead in a few forts, the rest bandit/soldiers
Put undead and creatures in Ayleid Ruins
Caves randomly.
Add some unique NPCs to the roads.

And then a few little quests. This can even be done with the public construction set. (OOO got a little bit closer to this)

I never considered any of Cyrodiil's major thoroughfares as being over wide, and the province is, as mirocu says, the heart of the Empire. As to the Empire itself, glargg has something of the right of it. It's spelled out in Daggerfall's opening, where it is stated that "...The unworthy heirs of the Septim Dynasty have allowed the heart of the Empire to weaken and crack. Uriel Septim VII can not repair what his ancestors ignored..." Note that this does not imply that Uriel Septim VII himself was a bad emperor. Only that he inherited a weakened empire.

One must not take this too far. Residents of Cyrodiil immediately following the Crisis might well be apprehensive about the future, but they also have reason to hope that things will be set to rights. Some might even harbor dreams of a return to greatness. Only we, with access to lore not at their disposal, know otherwise.
