Okay I get it, why is there so many people breaking the NDA

Post » Sat Jan 18, 2014 5:54 pm

I've seen a ton of people breaking the NDA only to talk a ton of BS about the game which tells me one thing, the NDA needs to get tossed out the door as soon as possible. I know a ton of people are itching to talk about the game (me included), We have a lot of good information to share about the beta and how it looks and plays thus far. Now before you say Zenimax has a schedule for all this blah blah... Yes I know, I'm a programmer that is looking to break into the gaming industry, so I know how the industry works for the most part. But when there is this much negative energy don't you think its about time to shed some more light on the game.

NDAs are a marketing tool, not a development one. I doubt you'll find anyone disagreeing with you here, but then everyone here is almost certain to buy the game. Their marketing department doesn't have to do any further work on us. They obviously have some reason which they think is maximising sales from potential players as things stand. I can't think of any positive reason why that would be, but that doesn't mean there isn't one.

open beta will be here soon enough and at that point it wont matter if there is an nda or not, the info will spread like wildfire and everyone will see where the game stands

Totally agree with you here, I know they don't need to sell us the game because most of our minds are already made up but wouldn't we be helping Zenimax promote the game to the people that are still undeceive? It would be better to post positive previews of the game instead of reading about the people that broke the NDA and weeding through the garbage.

NDA's are there for a number of reasons. To prevent people from spoiling the ending, prevent players from giving out information that might be changed (Since it's still beta), to stop players from making money off their access (For example making a deal with IGN to make money and give them exclusive info). I normally don't like NDA's when it comes to something like this because I feel that the information needs to be given to the people so that they know more about the game and get rid of misconceptions (Such as, it's a wow clone, which I don't know the answer too since everything is in NDA). Although I can understand why Zeni would use them.

Also from a marketing viewpoint, NDA prevents the game from getting a bad rep for poor graphics and bugs and the like before it's even been released. For people around here, it wouldn't matter much because we know it's in beta and that things improve between beta and release. The rest of the world is not nearly as understanding.

Thanks for all the insight guys. For the most part, I hear what you guys are saying but when people don't like what they see they feel more entitled to speak bad about something. I'm not saying they should or shouldn't, its just the way the general public thinks.

Not exactly. I do not know all, but may be ZOS pushed too much on marketing too early. Now the hopes grown and you know - the technology is still the same, not 1000% better, may be some better. It has nothing to do with NDA.

NDA violations and the details of the beta program are not an appropriate topic for discussion.
