Shock or Fire against Dwarven Constructs?

Post » Wed Jan 22, 2014 12:02 am

Since my I created my new player Kagrenac, my ultimate goal is to retrieve every Dwarven artifact possible and clear out all the Dwemer ruins. I went into a warehouse next to Mzulft to test my fighting against the Dwarven Constructs. Only thing to be found there were spiders, and damn those things have a lot of health; melee wasn't enough. So I want to raise my destruction but is better for taking out these machines? Fire or Spark?

Thanks in advance :)

I like meleeing those bad boys (especially the centurians;)), but, I don't think they have any specified weakness to either and so I'd imagine it might be inconsequential and, therefore, the most powerful or preferred one on your part would be the deciding factor.

however, as for specifics I definitely don't know for sure.

Both work. I think they are resistant to cold. I did the whole dwemer thing with my last character but had to delete him after I got everything. My plan was originally to have him die at blackreach.

Blackreach is sort of a Dark and depressing place to die :( I'll probably have him die on top of a mountain near a Dwemer Ruin like http://static3.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20130210003859/elderscrolls/images/3/37/Fahlbtharz.png

They used to be vulnerable to frost magic in Morrowind. Why they suddenly became resistant to cold baffles me... Their boilers would be inhibited by it an they'd sputter down.

I have used all 3 elements and found that fire works the best, especially if dual casted.

In-game, I think both shock and fire work equially well but TECHNICALLY, they should be weaker to fire since, well, they're metal and all that.

Hmmmm, it's a hard choice; fire or shock. I don't want to use a perk on one of them then regret doing so :\ I'll just have to test them both out before I upgrade either one.

When one of the spiders die, they always emit shock bolts. So fire is best on them. The spheres, in some dungeons, have pools of oil around where they travel. So use fire on them also.

On every mage I've ever played, I've never once specified in ONE element. It really limits you and you can without any issues master all three and be an elemental mage.

Fire is quaint ^^ Nothing beats obliterating the opposition with a mighty lightning bolt! The range is quite terrible though but it's cast instantly.

Lightning bolt is definitely the fastest. I used to use Firebolt, but it kept missing when the target moved. So I'm a convert to juice.

Or instead of fighting the things, you could just moon 'em and run. :hehe:

Yeah, as stated above, limiting yourself to just one type of destruction class isn't the best idea. I think I'll go for both fire and shock then, but more shock, since it's quicker :P

Don't forget frost. Trust me, when a warrior rushes against you, frost will come in handy. Mostly for the slowdown effect.

Chain-stagger and stunlock. And people call mages underpowered. Hah.

To kill dwarven constructs, I use the following method. (Note: This is for my Sorcerer build. I use separate strategies depending on the build I go with.)

Step one, Oak/Stone Flesh/Equivalent of a higher power.

Step two, Flame cloak

Step three, Fireball

For me it's rare that I bother with the dwemer stuff at all.

Oh, dwarven spiders, dual wielding staff of fireball makes for a lot of fun.

No such thing as an underpowered mage / sorceres / warlock / sorcerer or anyone who uses only magic. Love the elements. lol

I use an enchanted Ebony Bow with Fire Damage Sir.
The most efficient kill I have managed is to fell a Dwarven Centurion Master with 100 Sneak and 100 Archery and two Daedric Arrows.

I liked that the constructs in Thief 2 were vulnerable to water. You could douse their nasties to put out their boilers.
Half expected this to be the case with Frost Damage in TES. Especially as the book Ruins of Kemel-Ze mentions this element.

Okey-dokey, Flame on.

I have a shock mage running at the moment so he obviously uses shock, but I find fire works just as well too.

I thought Shock was their weakness. They always seemed to take more damage due to Shock, from when I have been playing.

I assume because they run on steam and emit electricty, you're overloading them.
