Ok this Is kinda unusual. I've googled it and can't seem to find anyone with a similar problem.
So I married aela, adopted 2 kids, built windstad manor, have a steward, and a bard, a pet husky, and my son brought home a pet crab.
Everything going fine.

I get home one day to fin my steward fighting some bandits. I kill em and loot. Inside one bandits pocket was a ransom letter for my wife. I start running towards the camp to save her. Halfway to my destination, it says the quest was completed. I was like wtf did she just save herself? Cool..I keep going anyway to see . Get to the camp, kill bandits, find aela inside cave.

Since then though, she's been acting ret@rded. Walk ing backwards,wiggling her feet while standing in place. Always walking into furniture. Staring off into space while doing her silly feet jiggle.

I've tried having her follow me, doing some quests with her, everything and it's not working. Can't even have her as a follower as she won't walk behind me. Shel run backwards or diagonally.

I feel that the kidnapping thingy screwed with her ai. I just made a story in my head that she snapped because of what happened and went clinically insane.

It's depressing though. I kinda wanna start again because of this. Anyone know a possible fix? Would be greatly appreciated

Really? Apparently she becomes unessential after the Companions questline is complete.

Ooh really? Any console commands I can do to try and fix this first though? I don't wanna fusrodah her off high hrothgar just yet

I'm kind of used to flying mamoths and horses though.

I had this happen with Marcurio, but I was on the 360 so there was nothing I could find that helped.

This has been an issue with the whole wife kidnapping thing. Of course you got there to late to rescue Aela. I mean come on. Its AELA! (I love her)

Anyway you could try a few things and see what happen if your on the PC. select her ID and from the console command window enter resurrect 1. This will "reset" her without making a duplicate her. Save first of course incase it goes wrong. You can also take her as a follower. see if that works? Do you use UFO for followers? Set her to essential/ignore friendly fire and then hit her. It might piss her off but may also reset her.

Because of this issue none of my characters wifes that can be followers have ever been dismissed. I use UFO and Relax Here when I do "dismiss" them.
