AMD FX 6300 Causing Micro Stutter?

Post » Fri Jan 24, 2014 8:48 pm

First my Specs.

CPU- AMD FX 6300 6 core 3.5ghz

GPU- EVGA GTX 660 2GB (non Ti or SC) driver version 322.22

RAM- ADATA XPG 8GB DDR3 1600mhz

OS-Win7 64 bit home premium

1600x900 Resolution

I recently just built this PC (switched from console yay :D) and picked up Skyrim on steam (first game i bought on there) and it defaulted my settings to Ultra High quality, what i noticed right away when playing was a micro stutter every 10 or so secs every time it has to load a part of the cell/world it stutters for a quick sec then quickly goes back to normal. I ran FRAPS and it consistently runs 60fps everywhere except when it hits a stutter... then it drops to 40-45 then quickly rebuilds back to 60fps. Its not game breaking by any means but it is really annoying and immersion breaking. Ive tried every fix out there including mods,V sync, adjusting ini's and windowed mode..everything nothing has helped all those did was produce screen tearing and the stutter was still there..unless im not doing something right which very well could be the case. :confused:

i am running the Bethesda HD Pack, Sky UI, SKSE, Immersive HUD and unofficial patches and that's it... i plan on getting a lot more texture mods and meshes but not before i can fix this stuttering.. btw it was stuttering before i got any mods so i know those are not that issue..i have experienced no FPS drop while running the HD packs. could this just be my rig issue? or the game itself? Currently my settings are this..

iPresentInterval=0

V Sync-" use 3D application setting" in the Nvidia Control panel.

Ultra High quality- 1600x900 res

thanks any help would be awesome :D

on a side note i play Assassins creed 4 and BF4 on high-ultra with no stuttering whats ever...if anyone asks if i ran other games.

You don't want to run this game at 60FPS, you want to clamp the rates at a lower level, like 48. Game is butter smooth, and it masks the frame rate drops (that you can't do anything about anyway). You run the game much over 54 FPS, you can get this microstutter, which is more mouse related than anything else.

You can use a third party tool to clamp the rates, or use the Antilag NVSE Plugin (better solution) and clamp the rates to something like 48. Do not go above 54.

http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/2581/?

Note, you have to install this, then run the game, then edit the cfg file that is created to set the rates to where you want.

You need to install NVSE first, get that from Silverlocks website, then install the antilag into there.

And, yes do this manually. Here is a video that shows the installation. She now likes a third party tool for this, but I still like the antilag and run it on my game, plus it keeps background app count down

"iPresentInterval=0". Set this to 1.

I didn't know it could cause microstuttering. I got the same CPU, but I don't play on ultra(even though my card is well equipped for it) and default AA. There's too much going on in my game to get constant 60FPS, so that's probably why I never noticed stuttering.

i think i made some progress with it..i still have it on ultra but i turned the distant object detail down to high instead of ultra and that has made a world of difference just right there.

I dont recommend using this mod CCNA posted. I tested it some months ago and besides not fixing the stutter, it bugged the engine making grass invisible in some places (for example in the road between The Guardian Stones and Half Moon Mill).

I have the same CPU with a HD 6850 and have some stutering, but i had before with my Core 2 quad Q8200 too. Unfortunately in my case, the stuttering is caused because i cap my game at 30fps with Dxtory. If i uncap the fps i have zero stuttering.

I recommend you do some tests: First disable vsync in the game and in Nvidia CP and see if the game stop stuttering. If not, try using a third party program like Dxtory or Bandicam to cap your fps to 59. If not again, try capping at 30fps.

If nothing above solved your problem you can try setting the game to High instead of Ultra.

Actually..checking it again, I do run on ultra. But as I said, I never noticed any mircostuttering.

Major mods I run are WARZONE, the Unofficial patches, Deadly Dragons, Moonlight Tales, SkyUI, and Take Notes.

I would do all settings to high, instead of ultra.

Disable AA from you NCP and the game.

Vsync=adaptive.

---------------------

I play that way at 1920x1080 butter smooth. (And i have the same GPU as you...)

And my CPU is lower than yours....

hmm well apparently setting the object distant detail to high did the trick cause now i have no stutter or lag whatsoever .. but how can just that small change that isnt really a change if any make the difference?

See here the difference. !!!!!

http://international.download.nvidia.com/geforce-com/international/comparisons/the-elder-scrolls-v-skyrim-tweak-guide/Skyrim-Tweak-Guide-DistantObjectDetail-Comparison.html

So it's CPU and GPU related, as they must render more details to the screen, obvious isn't. ???? :wink:

I have not seen that issue. So, it could be down to the mod mix. However, this did remove the stutter from my game.

If it does cause issues, you can use a third party tool like MSI Afterburner or whatever works with your video card to clamp the frame rates.
