Well the title says it all. At least it wasn't a vampire ancient. My new level 2 ranger's talking to merchants for quests and the proprietor in this pawn shop offers me a quest, but says I have to agree to do it before he'll tell me what it is. I decide, "Why not? I've done one quest for this guy and failure won't hurt me too much." Then he says, "I'm a powerful vampire, and this other vampire hanging out in a dungeon hates me, so I want you to go kill her." (Foot in mouth) I say, "OH."
Well, I consider just scrapping the quest, but then decide, "Well, its a challenge, and at least I can get experience and loot in the dungeon." What a fun ride, and definitely a sense of accomplishment when I not only find the vampire, but actually manage to kill it without dying. Granted this was after a harrowing life and death struggle, firing my elven short bow then dodging her spells from a safe distance. Ultimately I ran out of arrows and lead the vampire through a large part of the dungeon with hit and run tactics (I retrieved 30 arrows from her). By this time, I must say I lucked out. I had come to a stair case and the vampire glitched out at the bottom and wouldn't follow me up the stairs. Consequently, I was able to finish her off with my Dwarven broadsword, feinting then retreating for her counterstroke. As I said, a fun ride, and definitely a sense of accomplishment at the end.
