How do you roleplay in Skyrim?
Do you roleplay as yourself or a character with it's own personality?
What do you like about roleplaying in Skyrim?
I would really like to see people's answers cause...I just can't do it
C'mon people, tell people like me how ya do it!
First I create a backstory. Then I think about how this influenced their personality. I'll try and make decisions and do certain quests based on this. I also choose dialogue choices I think would fit. I'll decide when I think that character's story is over. I wouldn't really call that roleplay, more like character development.
A mix of both as I put a bit of myself in all of my characters but I play them according to their own character....I just have enough sides to me to create a handful of different "Me's" in Skyrim and make them all unique
I don't have the imagination to imagine all the backstory stuff and the really involved RP that people get into, I simply create say a badass berserker Orc and then play them as how I would be if I were a badass Orc who dual wields maces
Oh and I do create some headcanon and things of that nature to make my characters feel more real, like how my Nord Dragonborn discovered along the way that he's a descendent of Ysgramor which is why Wuuthrad feels right in his hands as it has returned home...he also wears Ancient Nord armor to represent his ancestors and his desire to return Skyrim to the old ways.
Every single one of my characters I approach them the same way I am running Pathfinder or DND. They all have their own story and they all have their own backstories. With their own personalities, values, and traits. Each character will do something differently than the other. Its the only way to keep the gameplay fresh and fun, at least for what little fun I have in Skyrim.
For example I playing Enesia, my archeologist mage. He dungeon dives and explores caves, collecting treasures and information about the past. He's not really a student of the college, however, even as a novice mage he does have some connection with the mages college, but only so they can fund his research.
He never touches any of the holds, only when he has stuff to sell, since he's a treasure hunter and a researcher. He enjoys adventure and doesn't like to be tied down, prefering to read his books outside and prefers journeying instead of being stuck in a stuffy college. For more immersion, He's joined the college, but hasn't touched any of the quest. I'll touch them when he gets to level 25. So I can pretend that he's been in the college long enough to justify becoming Arch mage.
He joined at level 5. So I think waiting 20 levels should be fine.
His current adventure went and snaked back from Helgen through the Falkreath area, through the Reach, through The Pale, to Winterhold to join the college, from Winterhold to Windhelm, from Widhelm to Riften.
Exploring dungeons and doing odd quest on the side for people.
Since he has a kinder heart than most of my more aggressive characters.
How do you roleplay in Skyrim?
When creating my character, I create a backstory according to the race I choose. For example, my most recent character is an old orc who came to Skyrim to try to find purpose or a good death. I usually choose a skillset for my character so for my orc I made him a warrior who specializes in one-handed weapons, blocking, and weapon smithing with some two-handed weapons.
I generally never set restrictions for myself except for no fast travel. I walk everywhere. It makes the game for immersive and fun for me.
I do quests that reflect my character build. For my orc I plan on doing a lot of bounty hunting but I will not do any thieves guild, brotherhood, and college of Winterhold quests. I plan on destroying the Dark Brotherhood.

Create a character with it's own personality.
What do you like about roleplaying in Skyrim?
Makes me enjoy the game more and experience more of the game. Whenever I just do whatever I want like fast traveling it ruins the experience for me and I become bored of it fast.
It's more than the sum of it's part.
Playing characters that have personal preferences: "I'm not a thief", "I'm not a killer", "I am not a mage", "I am not a warrior", "I am not a vampire", 'I am not a werewolf" (or the reverse); "I haven't asked to be this dragonborn freak", etc. You can make combinations of these preferences, as long as they make sense. After that, you can create backstories for your character; I don't.
My problem with RP-ing comes from me as in "My eyes can't see what isn't there"
Maybe I just lack the imagination?
Don't get me wrong, I love skyrim but I wanna add more life to it as i'm bored of it atm.
