A noob who doens't understand the Towers

Post » Sun Jan 26, 2014 3:58 pm

I'm new to the lore, and I generally have a grip on the historical side of things, but moving more into the metaphysics and other deeper subjects of lore confuses me greatly. Like what are the 'works of MK' and if they aren't in-game, where can you find them and how are they official lore? But enough on that, I'm curious about towers.

What exactly are they? The Infernal City tells us that it is commonly thought that the towers were what literally held up the world, and that if they were destroyed or deactivated then Mundas would dissolve back into Oblivion. That's... all I know.

I'm aware of the White Gold Tower, and the Adamantine Tower in High Rock, but what other towers are there? I've also heard that some are either destroyed or deactivated. If that's the case, and they are so fundamentally important to reality itself, then how can they be deactivated and why? And why have more than one tower if Mundas remains... Mundas when other towers aren't working?

There'll probably be another couple questions to pop into my head later, but it's late and I'm tired so this is all I can muster for the time being. :thanks: in advance. :)

Also, if people would be so kind as to throw some references and sources at me so I have something to do this Sunday...? :3

You'll want to read the NU-Mantia intercepts, check out The Imperial Library.

The elder scrolls fandom is not a big fan of official canon, an emphasis is placed on reading and coming to your own conclusions. MK's works are not official, not all of them, but they have a habit of making their way into the games. He also was a developer so his opinion has a certain weight and he also comes up with reasons to wxlalon apparent discrepancies.

As for towers, you've got the right idea. Some have another purpose, but they all enforce the barrier between Tamriel and Oblivion. The towers we know of are White Gold, Ada-Mantia, Red Mountain (deactivated in Morrowind) Crystal Like Law (destroyed), Green Sap (arguably deactivated), Snow-Throat (probably the Throat of the World). Oricalc was a tower in Yokuda, but was destroyed.

Numidium is a tower as well, and arguably the whole Khajit race.
