I'm sorry, you can't walk here.

" And I ran, I ran so far away.

I just ran, I ran all night and day.

I couldn't get away. "

Forced to run?

Are we confined to the I/O movements of the W,S,A,D keys?

Not being able to move the character with deliberate speed intervals can have a dramatic impact how the gameworld feels. It could get very distracting when you get 10 players in the same spot, trying to talk to the same NPC and everyone is jumping about because the only options are stop - run - sprint.

I just want to take a small and easy step or two, I don't want to sprint for 2 steps.

I am pretty sure there will an option for Walk/Run. Most MMO's have this, just look in the key bindings menu, I would expect ESO to have this too.

What leads you to think there isn't a toggle between walk, run and sprint?

Oh... is there a release about the controls? I haven't seen anything and all of the videos depict the PCs running everywhere. The consoles will obviously have no issue because of anolog sticks. Yet the PC platform is stuck with the keys.

So, there will be a walk key like the sprint?

In WoW, Rift & Swtor you pressed Num Lock (I think it was that key) and you activated 'walk mode'. I'd expect ESO to have this too, we haven't seen a video showing it, but seeing a character walking isn't exactly a priority to be shown.

No, not that I know of anyway. My point was that I can't think of a single MMO that doesn't have a toggle for this, hell even most single player or non-MMO multiplayer games have such a basic control scheme, controller or not.

I'd say its safe to assume there is some degree of control of your character's speed.

It'd be a bit odd if there wasn't a toggle for this.

I assume that regular NPCs don't sprint wherever they want to go either, so there's animations to use already.

Indeed, most games have a walk option... and in most games, you never see any characters ever, anywhere, using it. Maybe on RP servers; I wouldn't know. I guess I've used it in various games a handful of times in the context of an escort quest, if my escortee was walking.

The fact that you've never seen it in an ESO video therefore doesn't mean much

Time passes faster in video games than in the real world. The days are shorter, and things that would in the real world take hours happen in seconds; preparing food for instance, or eating it. People don't want their gameplay time filled with waiting.

Nick Konkle confirmed a togglable key to make your character walk. He was asked this in his interview by Tamriel Foundry in ESO Alliance episode 2.

People always complain about this kind of stuff, but rarely use the feature; it's kind of like consoles being backwards compatible >.<

One practical uses is walk+ sneak, in Skyrim and Oblivion this increased sneak on the cost of speed.

Works fine, just hit CapsLock to walk, if you have always run, it works the other way too.

How interactive is the world? Can players toggle a 'walk' function instead of running everywhere?

Walking is already available (along with a whole slew of emotes). You can enter lots of the buildings you’ll come across, but there are a few you can’t. There are tons of shops, inns, and temples you can enter, and even many residences. Right now, we don’t have any special camps you can set up, but there are tons of beautiful (and, yes, even romantic) vistas all across Tamriel that you can visit.

While holding down the mouse button to perform a more powerful attack, how would that affect mobility?

You can move while charging a heavy blow. Blocking consumes Stamina and you can only walk while blocking. So, you could begin charging a heavy attack with a sword while not in range of an enemy, move into range, and then hit the enemy with the attack when you release it.

I think there is a walk toggle.

Ah... the old 'search function' trick... hey?

Not exactly a Three Stooges quote but still... thank you for the sources. I will do well to enter a key word, like "walking" in the search bar of that site in the future.

Honestly, I wouldn't be playing this game without a walk function.

Or "toggle walk". One of the things I like the most about that is the dates on the information, and when/if it was updated.
