"Any character you can think of"...lies

Take back what I said earlier; they did have something that covered this:

http://elderscrollsonline.com/en/news/post/2013/11/04/ask-us-anything-variety-pack-10

I watched the creation video and noticed that the Khajiit and the Argonians have special scales and fur options. Do other races have something just for them, too (e.g. Breton hairstyles or Nord-only tattoos)? - Jane Feora

Because the Khajiit and Argonians are physically unique (human hair just wouldn’t work on the Argonian head, for example), we had to create an entirely new set of hairstyles, body markings, and adornments for them. The other races do share some of the hairstyles and adornments, but each race will have its own subset of unique hairstyles, adornments, and body markings. Dark Elves, for instance, are the only race that has House sigil tattoos.

How many hairstyles does the character creator have for each race? What hair and eye colors are currently available? - Jeff Glover

There are currently 24 hairstyle choices per gender in the character creation system. Some of these choices are shared between races, but each race has some unique hairstyle options. Hair color and eye color are also specific to each race and align with established lore. For example, Wood Elves have an option for black eyes that is not available to any other race.

As the constantly changing person as I am, I tend to always want to change hairstyles on my characters in-game after a little while to make it match a certain armor, or the likes. So, my question is: will it be possible to change your hairstyle or other appearances (like tattoos) in-game after you have created your character? - Therese Str?m

For the initial release of the game, you’ll only be able to select hairstyle and adornment choices in the character creation screen at the beginning of the game. We hope to provide enough options to allow you to create a unique avatar. But we feel the same as you—over time, players want to change their appearance as they develop their characters, so we do have plans to release additional hairstyles, tattoos, adornments, etc. in post-launch content updates.

Google Guild Wars 2 hairstyles. Behold! Some long hairstyles!!!! Miracles of miracles! They are of course using technology that wasn't developed when Zenimax started working on TESO though...

Also, I haven't seen the beta, so maybe OP is talking about crazy long hair, like butt and below...if so, and TESO does indeed have a variety of hair lengths from super short to middle back lengths, then I'll feel pretty silly lol.

ummm WTF?

there is only one zone that will have any pvp ONE ZONE. Also, while i am willing to bet money that PVE zones will grow by leaps and bounds is anyone willing to bet that the PVP zone will get bigger? or that we will get more of them?

and hair? seriously your main issue is hair? I was thinking i am going to read about the lame class system or lack of branching skill sets but no, long freaken hair is what we need. I say we dont just stop there and go more asian, all eyes need to be freaken HUGE and take up at least 30% of the face! THAT will make the game EPIC!!!

Yes, its one way to do it without hair physic and its to have it follow the back, think a short hooded cloak.
Downside with this is that it clip serious with bulky armor. Push it away and it either to big or you get an gap between thin clothes and hair.

The plastic look is mostly from the texture maps, pretty unrealistic on hair who is not washed and sprayed.

This is also an drop issue with lots of hair mods in Skyrim and Oblivion, lots of the hair is converted Sims3 hair, sims tend to bath regularly :)

As I wrote earlier, hair who fall down around the shoulders is in Skyrim, I would be very surprised if its not in ESO.

For much longer hair:

The top image shows the problem.

I have a strange RL reference that goes all over the place... follow me for a second.

You know how Police officers with long hair usually wear it up to prevent hazards such as it getting caught on something or getting pulled by it in a struggle with a suspect. Maybe im taking it to far but thats how i see it.

Even Everquest 2, which came out 10 years ago, had long hair and even used physics on it.

The Hair in TES:O from the screens/videos looks like your usual "bolted on" hair that never moves or anything, like a lego hair piece.

I hope that there at least some shoulder lenght ones, like in Skyrim.
Doesn't need to be excessively long.
