Companions? Yes or no?

I've came back to roleplaying Tyra Stormcloak. A pure Nord born in High Rock, the bastard daughter of Ulfric Stormcloak. Something she has yet to find out. In childhood, Tyra's mother always told her tales about Nordic heroes, which made her idolize the Nordic and Atmoran heroes such as Ysgramor and King Harald.

Needless to say, despite being born in High Rock, she's as Nordic as it can get. Having a strong sense of honour and a natural skill for warfare. A brave and stubborn woman, at the same time, she's also a symphatetic and kindhearted person aslong as she trusts you. Tyra strongly distrusts the Empire but does not hate other races. This is the case even before she met her father.

Somebody that holds the Nordic tradition so close in her heart must have an interest in joining the companions, yes? Truth is, I'm not sure.

I can see some reasons for her to join the Companions:

1. Ysgramor started the Companions. And given that Ysgramor is very likely Tyra's biggest idol, this could raise some interest.

2. The Companions speak about tales of valor and help making Skyrim a safer place, although their motives seem to involve something she'd dislike with a heavy heart. (I'll get to that now.)

I can also see reasons not to join them.

1. The Companions seem rather arrogant, except for maybe a few people. (Ria, Kodlak, Farkas.) For Tyra, this could mean that the Companions are just a shadow of what they used to be. Nothing more than a bunch of bounty hunters that fight for their pockets and bragging rights.

2.

Spoiler
I can't seem to justify a good reason for her to become a werewolf. Given that she values Nord tradition. Sure you can cure it, but still.

So yeah, what do you think? Yay or nay?

You can also role play this revelation about the companions as a trial/test of her maturity. She discovers that life is complicated and that the old myths are simplified or white washed versions of the true story. Realizing this, she decides to undergo the ordeal and demonstrate her resolve to overcome such obstacles.

Yeah but I'm not sure if she'd risk her own blood for it. Saving people their lives is one thing, but risking your entrance to your favourite afterlife?

That's quite a huge blow.

you could have her do some "research" before making her decision.

I guess it could be a favour for Ysgramor. If he was looking at the Companions right now, he'd probably throw his shield through the window like a frisbee because of his anger. Now that I think of it, his shield may be a nice artifact for Tyra.

Yay.

Even if she finds some of them arrogant, others aren't. Most importantly, Kodlak aren't. He welcomes the player. As a comparison, my Breton, Jelissa (another one of Ulfric's many bastard daughters, man, has he been busy!), was kind of short-tempered - the arrogance of Vilkas, for example, triggered her to prove that she was at least as good as he, in fact, even better. (And then she married him after having argued with him for a few months, but that's another story :P)

In Jelissa's case, she was so eager to prove her worth and belong somewhere that it wasn't too hard for them to convince her to take the next step. She was a bit reluctant, but being positive towards Aela helped a lot (now I use a mod that makes Aela a potential follower during Dustman's Cairn instead of Farkas, so they had already been through an ordeal together - but of course, even if you do it with Farkas, you can still RP her getting impressed of what she sees in there, maybe a bit curious... I dunno.

No.

As you say they are not the Companions of old, they have very little honour (Kodlak excepted.)

Ulfric's a ladies man. (Is it me, or are most of his illegitimate daughters non-Nord?) I think that if she will join the Companions, (Something I'll still think about.) she probably won't marry a companion. Tyra will probably fall in love with http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Argis_the_Bulwark I kind of want her partner to be a reliable. And Farkas (The only other character that seems to fit her.) has a very messed up skillset. http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Farkas

That's probably a main reason why I'm still doubting.
