If anyone is listening - FOV range option should be wide.

Post » Tue Jan 28, 2014 6:02 am

In order to accommodate first person as a viable, competitive option in your PvP, you should allow for a player's field of view to scale all the way to 180. Most will stop at 90; some might go quake-pro and set thiers to 120. Since third-person is fully functional this will in no way facilitate an unfair advantage. It a uniquely important setting in multi-player games.

It's a major feature for PC gamers, and if it's not included in ESO you will be condemned for that.

I don't have much personal interest, but it's something I have observed as a PC gamer in the past as a consistent outcry and I feel it is valuable feedback because even large companies have managed to screw basic stuff like this up. When that happens PC gamers tend to take it personally as an insult, the feature is considered standard and not including it implies the PC version was an afterthought to a console game; whether that be true or not.

while i agree they should have an FOV slider, it is not entirely likely to happen. Remember, they refused to even have first person in the first place and it took the entire internet literally exploding at them to add it. Even then, they were against it. it would not surprise me in the least, if, even by launch, the FOV was horrendous with no ability to change it.

Considering that Skyrim's default FOV made me physically ill, I do say that you have a point, not just for gameplay reasons.

I already know I'll be playing 3rd person myself, but I'd be happier knowing that people that want to play first person have the ability to do so in a way they see fit... and not feel like vomiting while playing! :D

because you somehow think that they will listen to your single post about something they were unwilling to add in the first place.

Yeah I don't have a problem with the default.

I can tell you're a child of the apathetic generation. Trying can't hurt.

I'd also like to have an FOV slider in the game because I get serious head aches with too low FOV. If it's like Skyrim, I probably won't be playing it as much as I'd like. From the videos we've seen so far, the FOV is set to somewhere around the 60's or 70's which is extremely low for a primarily PC centered game.

75 minimum.

Not one person will post in this thread to say they want an FOV option specifically excluded from the game, no matter how many pages it gets to.

Edit: except now they will, to be coy (because internet).

Every journey begins with a single step.. If enough players agree and make the "entire internet literally exploding at them" then this could be considered the first step

And yes, I agree with you OP, I want the FOV option myself. I don't wanna feel like I have to literally have something shoved up my face in order to pick it up/look at it.

120 degrees is close to standard for human forward vision...don't see why that wouldn't be the default adjustment for 1st person view.

It's always a trade-off, the higher you go the more tunnel-vision you have. I grew up playing Counter Strike and you don't want your FOV too high in that game because it's all about head-shots.

Now that I think about it.

Having a curved(wide) monitor with 120 degree FOV sounds pretty sweet.

yeah, no. sorry. that is just naive thinking. Not going to happen, not enough people care to do it. When i mean the internet exploded, i mean basically every website, professional, fanmade, forums, what have you started complaining, that is not going to happen here

I bet when someone cuts in line in front of you in the cafeteria you don't say anything.

This isn't asking for "first person" - this is an integer-based value that can be changed as easily as pushing the buttons on your num-pad. It requires no significant investment of development time. The two things are utterly different. FOV as a setting exists as a necessity of any first person game regardless of whether or not you're allowed to change it.

The thread exists only to raise awareness that it's a much-sought-after option or setting (read: not a feature). It exists to preempt dozens of threads that will crop up if the option isn't available.

We care. We want to be able to tunnel vision to our heart's delight.

Furthermore your argument that it will not be included because outcry will not be loud enough is horribly, horribly misguided considering it's more likely than not already an available option. It conveys a lack of experience in PC gaming.

You might be right but that's still no good reason to try.

If you're gonna go down you might as well go down kicking and screaming. At least then there's a chance you might not realize, as opposed to having no chance if you don't voice the opinion.

Just ignore PKMN12  All s/he is interested in is telling people who post here that they are wrong wrong wrong.

In fact a dev has said that they are looking into introducing a FOV slider or options. Let me see if I can find the cite... just ran across it on Reddit I think. BRB.

Edit: ESO Alliance interview with Nick Konkle.

Afaik they did announce that first person wasn't included and that's when people went nuts. You can't say it's not gonna happen here, because afaik they haven't announced anything regarding FOV yet.

To have a massive outcry from people because there's no first person, only to give people the option of first person with a (let's say) FOV of 45, is like a slap in the face.

well, they were against it in the first place, and even as they added it, it was obvious they were doing it to satiate the hate they were getting and likely did not care how good it actually was

Do not get me wrong, i would LOVE an FOV slider (not that it would make first person anymore viable in PVP, but still), but i just cannot see them doing it.
