Cheezy phishing scam alert...

Post » Thu Jan 30, 2014 9:28 am

If anyone has received an e-mail from a sender pretending to be "Steam" asking you to update your personal information, please don't. It's a phishing scam and has been reported to Valve/Steam.

(The link in the e-mail will direct you to "steampowereds.wz.cz/pinfo.php", clearly NOT Steam...)

Just letting everyone know.........

Folks remember, no legitimate company will contact you asking for personal information to be verified.

IF you ever get an email like this and you think it is real, just surf to the companies website (without following any email provided link) and ask them directly if this is needed. Same thing if you get a call, ask for a phone number to call back.

Not a problem! The e-mail will state that you must update your "personal information" or your account will be suspended. It (the e-mail) will ask for your name, password, date of birth and your social security number. the next page will ask you for your credit card info. Keep an eye out....

I have never "updated" my personal info for any site that sends me an email asking me. There's no need to. If they want my info so bad, they can ask me whenever I use their program or visit their site

As I have only ever put my credit card on one website I can easily detect when these things are bogus

Sometimes I get dodgy mails about my nonexistent WoW or League of Legends account or some [censored]. I've never played any of those games in my life. Genius.
