When you went to bed last night...

Post » Thu Jan 30, 2014 11:53 am

When you bed last night you were not able to play as an Imperial in the upcoming game known as The Elder Scrolls Online.

This morning you found out that if you pay $20 you can play as an Imperial in the upcoming game known as The Elder Scrolls Online.

That is literally everything that happened.

So why all the post about lies and secrets and conspiracies?

IMHO - Vote with your wallet. If a company does something that you don't like don't buy their product. On the other hand, if a company adds a feature that some people want and charges extra for it that doesn't mean that the game is going to fail or that it's all held together with wires and string. Relax, buy the game or don't buy the game. The only people who really have something on the line here are the people who work for the developers, not you.

because, they said SEVERAL times, and were adamant, about the fact that there would be no paygate, you would be able to play the game and have all content with just the $60 and the sub. Now they have gone and done something even WORSE and made a race that only people who buy the edition playable. This throws any trust they had right out the window, and opens up the fact that they will likely do it even more.

Something to point out is that only 1 other company has ever done this (make a race special edition only), and that company is PWE/Cryptic, a company famous for nickle and diming their customers, and ignoring their customers when the game launches. Another this is, they also make F2P games, so they at least have somewhat an excuse, they have to make money someway.

Honestly though,

Zenimax listened to the people didn't they? They added a way to boost xp (a little) because folks weren't happy with that. They added the imperials, they have made it to were you can play in any alliance. All things people were wanting...They had to add in additional developers or overtime to the ones they have...Justifies a cost difference. Developers aren't cheap, specially if they are contractors, trust me I know. If you want specifics just ask me . I used to be a head hunter :P

I dont consider this a paygate, personally. This is not forcing you to pay to get extra content, it's making you pay for cosmetic benefits.

The horse will (probably) not be faster than any other horses, the wording is sketchy. Chances are this feature is cosmetic only and just saves you some in-game money because you get your horse for 'free' (i.e. you get it for real money instead of ingame money).

The imperial race, imperial crafting, imperial armor appearance, and vanity pet are all cosmetic features.

The ring that gives you extra experience probably has equivalent counterparts elsewhere in the game, you just get the perk of getting it sooner.

A paygate is payment for game content, and the definition of game content is quests, areas to visit, or player equipment which has an impact on the playability or balance of the game world.

End point: people just like to throw a fit when they deem things arent going their way.

Good points. Whether an individual buys the Imperial edition or not does not directly effect any of the other players. People are making a fuss about the Imperial and their special ability, but I am calling it now, their special ability will have something to do with DIALOGUE, not combat, so people can just cool it about that.

This is just a way for Zenimax to make more money while catering to what many people do want, and what some people don't because they see it as a lack of trust.

But those who dislike this and don't want it to happen have no real stake in the success in this game, but many, many developers do, so I think it's a smart move on their part.

IT IS a paygate, a race that is ONLY playable if you buy it. Race is content.

I view the Imperial Collect as an out of the gate TESO Expansion.

Think about Wow... TBC was $30 for the blood elf and Draenei Race. Then another $30 for the Panda race.

It's a cosmetic variation.

WOW expansions was also a massive addition to the game and added a lot more than just a race.

This morning when I woke up, I found out that I need to pay 80 euros for the game known as Elder Scrolls Online to have CE.

This morning I found out, that those 2 Dragon Knights chasing me in Cyrodil with their faster horses will catch me up and kill me because they paid 25 euros more for their game.

This morning I found out, that above subscription I will pay every month, I will not be able to play as Imperial because I never wanted CE with some map or figures.

This morning I found out, that people with money will get 50 more quickly that I will.

This morning I found out, that every second player in this game will have mudcrab running around with him, and there will be mudcrabs everywhere.

When I went to bed last night I was positive about ESO and probably would've bought it in an instant.

Now my faith in the company has disintegrated and I'm very carefully considering wether or not this is worth a purchase at all.

WoW expensions gave you 5 or 10 new levels, more than 5 new zones with quests, new raids and instances on top of those races. It gave you a new story, moved on with lore, etc.

Imperials seem like an afterthought with which the developers figured they'd quickly be able to grab another 20 euros off of a lot of players.

The mount IS NOT faster! I hate it when forum members spread misinformation about the game and other people start taking over. The OMFGNORAIDS disaster all over again. Luckily this time a dev came and cleared it up.

And are you complaining about pets? In an MMO? Get real.
