V-sync bugs fixed!

Post » Thu Jan 30, 2014 3:03 am

Hello everyone  So tonight I was playing skyrim and I was messing around with my drivers and I randomly found a solution for that very famous bug that no one knows how to fixed (according to what I've seen, I've searched for a solution on many forums and no one know how to do)

So you probably know it, that bugs makes your game's graphics glitched and weird when the v-sync is off, and it's very annoying because it's best if the v-sync is off, you can go above 60fps and the game will be more smooth. If you enable v-sync, the framerate will be stuck at 60 fps which is not a problem at all but there's a imput lag with the mouse and that's quite annoying if you like your games as smooth as possible, like me^^

So, the solution for that bug is to go to your card's driver and to enable ambiant occlusion, and set it on "quality". that's all, really.

It's so stupid xD I can't be the first one who found this out. I'm sure many people found that out before.

Anyway, if you see my post, try it out and if it works for you, tell it to as many people as possible who plays Skyrim on PC and who hate that bug.

I hope it'll help you!

EDIT = of course, the ambient occlusion will highly drop your framerate but it should be okay if you decrease the anti-aliasing and the anisotropic filter, you'll get very high fps from 80 to 150 if you have a high-end PC

Turn off V-Sync, cap your frame rate at or below 60. Problem solved.

Note: if your monitor is at 60Hz, it can only display 60 FPS anyways. The majority of monitors are 60Hz.

What if your FPS doesnt go beyond 60? will turning V-sync off make a difference?

Yes you can fix by using softwares to block your framerate at 60 but there will still be an imput lag and if you put anbient occlusion there's no more imput lag.

It's not usually wise to allow it to go above 60 anyway. The Havok physics go nuts once you're past that point. The slightest nudge can send a murderous basket flying toward your head, or a sword hurtling over the city wall.

Skyrim's engine has a timing bug. That's why it needs vsynch to run stable.

I know, but if you enable the ambient occlusion, the engine stays stable even if you go above 60 fps, I don't know why but it does, that's why I thought it was important to tell this solution on the forum

EDIT = I have played more, and damn, you were right there still are some little graphic bugs >_<

I thought I had found a brand new solution for that bug xD

Just saying, that I routinely play smoothly and without any issues at 75 FPS (and 85 FPS when I have tried it) ever since November 2011, and I have verified those actual frame rates countless times in different ways.

I simply use a monitor, that natively supports being refreshed at 75 Hz or 85 Hz, and select either one as the GPU driver setting under Windows. Then I just let the game VSync with that refresh rate (VSync = on), and I have no issues whatsoever. No trick settings or 3rd party limiters needed. (In fact, for my monitor and the screen resolutions I use, the GPU driver by default hides the 60 Hz refresh option, so I would have to resort to mild trickery to even be able to try out 60 FPS @ 60 Hz, which would be a bit flickery on my CRT monitor anyway.)

My main point here is, that it seems to me, that there might be some misinformation being spread widely about 60 FPS somehow being a built-in FPS cap. Based on my experience, that just cannot be true. I agree, that a havok-related inherent cap does exist, but it must be just a bit higher than 60 FPS, perhaps somewhere closer to 90-100 FPS. (Still, going beyond 60 FPS in a stable way may require hardware that natively supports it plus suitable settings, and may not be possible in all configurations.)

I've once got an FPS of 120 in Oblivion.

Biologically speaking, I didn't notice a difference.

On Nvidia Inspector there's an framerate limiter option with 58fps that is supposed to fix the input lag that the v-sync creates but then there is tearing.

So you tried to play at 75 fps or 85 fps on a 75Hz and 85 Hz accordingly.

----------

Have you tried that on a 60Hz monitor. ????? with Vsync disabled...?????

Try that and you will see the difference.

or i put it otherwise, if you have a powerful computer disable Vsync on your 85Hz monitor and play at 115 fps. You will see what happens next. !!!!!!

The Physics will go nuts. !!!!!!

Yes, I believe it will, even without trying, as Skyrim is not really meant to be played with VSync off.
So thanks for the suggestion, but I do prefer to keep VSync on and have a nice stable game without any screen tearing. Well, maybe someday, if I ever get the urge, just out of curiosity, to see Havok go wild.

P.S.
I have never noticed any mouse input lag either, as mentioned in the OP, and I wonder if that might be due to some other game settings. Unfortunately I am unable to comment anything more useful on that issue.
