Meridia's Beacon: Stuck in locked chest

Post » Thu Jan 30, 2014 12:50 pm

Hey there,

I'm currently doing The Break of Dawn quest line but I'm having some issues obtaining Meridia's Beacon... It's in a locked chest that is Expert level. :(

I know that Meridia's Beacon can spawn in a bunch of different places but has anyone ever had it do this to them? It's located in a chest near a Giant camp so I'm not sure if I'm supposed to kill the giant to get the key because there is no way my character will be able to crack an Expert lock.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

EDIT: Sorry! I thought I was in the spoiler section. Can this get moved please? :)

Get a follower and command them to open it for you. They will open it with no problem.

I never relied on followers before so I didn't even think of that. Thank you!

Locks are easy to pick.

How do you know it's in there? I found it in Broken Oar Grotto once, and another time in a bandit camp.

Just get a ton of lockpicks and pick the lock yourself. each fail will increase your picking lv.

And honestly lockpicking is a skill I NEVER put perks into and I can open master/expert chests.

If you go to the temple and talk to Meridia before getting the beacon, the beacons location is then marked on the map.

Sometimes.

I think the Expert and Master picks are to...not hard to pick, but ridiculous.

This is me

-Expert lockpick all right

-Finds how to lock it

-Swings it around

-Looks like it Opened Lockpick snaps, even though it looked perfect and was perfect and not even giving me a warning that my lockpick was going to break

-Then I jiggle it a littl to the side, surely it will open, only goes halfway and snaps

-Jiggles it slightly the other way, only goes halfways and snaps

-Does it perfect again, and then it snaps even though it looked like it was going to open

I kind of give up at that point

This. Just start with the lockpick to the far left and move it little by little clockwise. Make sure to notice where it was before turning the lock (the little nails and stuff on the lock is a help here).

Or you can use a follower, like suggested.

Exactly like I do it. It's not too hard if you pay attention where your pick was last time it broke. I use the markings in the keyhole as a reference

Either get a follower to do it as suggested or do it yourself..... Save right before you go into the screen to try opening the lock, this way if you happen to run out of lock picks, you can revert to that save. Also if you have saved before going into the "lock picking screen", pay attention to were you were on your last pick, cause if you start on one side and work your way around, you can go back to that save and start were your last lock pick was used. Hope that made sense.
