Hi

Made the mistake of entering someone's house , didn't steal anything, left and then challenged by guard etc. Kept getting killed so agreed to go to jail etc. Thing is when I cam out my Orcish armor had been removed (on grounds that I had stolen it). Can't recall when or where I picked it up but had it for ages and I still have other items I had also "stolen" .

Is there any way I can recover this if I return to Dawnstar?

Why would they just keep that item?

There should be a couple of chests in the Dawnstar prison. One should be labelled something akin to "stolen goods". If you can pick the lock you should find all the stolen stuff they took from you.

If your follower picked it up with the pick up command it can be incorrectly flagged as stolen. Have you been using that?

Will I get challenged again if I break into the prison?

I think you should be able to just walk into the prison, but you will need to make sure you're not caught picking the lock.

I would use stealth just in case!

If you commit a crime and submit to authority then all of your stolen goods will be stolen by the guards and put in their treasure chest

There's a magical invisible chest in Dawnstar that's ripe for the looting
