Character File - Kept with Bethesda or On the Megaserver?

Post » Tue Feb 04, 2014 7:10 am

I dont remember a single MMO that let you change server for free.

You either had to pay or to stay where you rolled your character.

In TESO this is even less of a problem because the mega server is actually the merge of several sub servers.

But im sure someone will complain about this too.

Guild Wars 2

i only played two MMOs so i dont know if others did it.

I did point out how i hated that you couldnt do it in SWTOR, i expect more from ESO, especially when we talk about features found in F2P mmos.

Can my car take flight?

Of course there will be lag. Every time you play overseas there is lag. It is only a question of how good the game is at faking it.

Do us all a favor and stay on your server. It produces a better experience for both parties in every regard. If you find a ping of ~150-220 acceptable, that's your prerogative to play a game with a 1/10th second delay. In my day we kicked anyone who joined out Counter-Strike server with over 100 ping because it was better for everyone involved.

As far as i know GW2 does not allow free transfers anymore because "it killed the WvW" (according to what my friends said, because i did not play it).

Anyway server transfer is already available in game... by phasing to a different instance. Its the nature of the megaserver.

The OP is asking for a datacenter transfer, that might be more tricky. I dont know.

Why not?

And why should I know or care.

Seems that is a minor thing to do like name changes. More nickle and dime if you ask me.

gosh I'd think subscription fees go to more than just some vague notion of 'create new content' of fix bugs. None of the subscription fee goes toward account upkeep?

i wonder if anything makes you happy lol. you know the one thing people never mention when they talk about a sub fee? the company making money. everyone always talks about new content and server cost but no one mentions the part about them making money. this is the way things are done. people having plenty of options (sub par) if they want a f2p mmo.

What the hell is so par about paying for a box+sub then something as simple as server change or name change and they get dinged on that too.

What makes me happy is getting my money's worth.

What kids pay for these days is just mind-blowing. What people are willing to pay is just ridiculous especially when considering modern economic times really.

None of it stacks up. It is left wanting.

It's standard fare in the industry because it keeps server populations stable and, like charging for name changes, encourages accountability.

Also because it earns them more money.

It's not "these days" and we're not "kids" - you're trolling, or otherwise a kid yourself, as that's been a standard thing to be charged for since MMO's before World of Warcraft. There is no reason during normal play to swap between the US and EU servers with one character, and there's no need to change your character name either- unless you want to say, antagonize a whole bunch of people and then keep doing it anonymously.

imo nothing has more value than a good mmo game. nothing even comes close. 15 a month is pennies compared to everything else people spend money on

Well if a feature like this is available on a Free To Play MMO's I would expect that it should be available if you're paying a subscription.

So what does this mean: https://help.elderscrollsonline.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/5203/kw/can%20eu%20play%20on%20the%20american%20server

Once I create a character I am free to log onto whichever server I want but my character is technically "bound" (i.e. all the inormation held & housed) on the server I originally created?

Or

Once I create a character, if I want to play on another server I have to create another server on that server?

You'll be able to move between the two servers eventually, you're going to pay for each transfer though.
