What Would You Want to Hear More About Involving Brink?

Post » Thu Apr 29, 2010 10:58 am

I voted for SMART. Mainly because i want to know if I HAVE to use the SMART system. The system is a great idea, and will probably work amazing, but i like that satisfaction of being like 'YES! i made that jump finally all by myself.' but with the SMART system you wont experience that feeling, imo. If you dont have to use the system then i vote for Perks. Because i already know everything i want to know about the weapons, the levels arent a big deal to me; as with the plot for right now. CPU doesnt apply to me (Xbox) and no matter what the release date is, its not going to change how fast its going to come. It will be released when its finished!

Well, yes and no. The SMART button is the sprint button, so you have to use it to sprint. But you can improve how fast you do certain maneuvers by jumping or crouching at the right times, to the point of it basically being manual. Like, if you just hold down the SMART button and go to climb a wall, you will run up to it, stop, and start climbing. If you had jumped before you got to the wall, you might be able to just mantle it and keep moving.

I figure the SMART system will take care of itself and will have it's own learning curve. I'm most interested in the abilities of the classes. And the balancing of the weapons. Especially between the SMG types and assault rifles. And I'd like to know what kind of power the short scoped rifles have. ALSO it'd be nice to get an idea of the general recoil associated with the heavier weaponry as well as the differences in movement speeds between body types.

The balancing of the weapon types in generally will be fairly traditional. You have fast firing, low recoil, high spread SMGs; and slower but more powerful ARs with higher accuracy. Close range: SMG > AR, medium and long range: AR > SMG. Its hard to mess with that formula.

There are a few short clips of the short rifles hidden in some of the dev diaries (which do not have to have a scope). The one i have seen, based off of the DSR-1, shoots quite fast, so I assume its truly semi-auto. In which case, I wouldn't expect it to do much more damage than the ARs, or else you would have Lights with higher damage output than medium players. The other short rifle is based off of the bolt action SR-93, so I think you can expect it to be slower firing, but high damage per shot. I haven't seen any footage of it, but a well trained shooter can fire and cycle a bolt in under a second.

Recoil is a bit harder to gain information on, but they seem to be making the game in such a way that spraying is a viable strategy in shootouts, or at least close range shootouts. One tester said that he never used the iron sights, and yet never felt like he was being gunned down by other players, as long as he didn't try to return fire on the longer shots.

And your guess is as good as mine with the exact differences between bodytypes, even if you managed to figure something out from gameplay footage, I'm sure its been tweaked since then. Because they are still in beta, I wouldn't expect to see any information released about it either, since nothing is set in stone yet.

Shadowcat do you have much on the heavy weapon damage. Case eject cycle speed (How fast does the ammo go?) And recoil on larger weapons like the LMG and MiniGun?

If they made the Minigun accurate, it wouldn't have much recoil, most games compensate for that by giving it a fairly large spread. Weapon stats from one of the earlier builds made the Minigun look like an oversized SMG, probably shot faster though. I think this tells a little bit about what they intend to balance the gun like though. I haven't seen any in game footage of the LMG or HMG though. The most I can tell you is that the smaller one is based on the M249.

Do they have quick clips? Like the banana clips that are duct taped together? You see that in movies. Never in games. Also do you know what model of weapon the HMG might be based on? (I know there are icons and you guys had that thread trying to figure out all the weapons and their real life counter parts. But I never saw the HMG. And have you seen how the spread on the shot guns works? Is it possible to knock someone down in a couple shots?

They do have duct taped clips you can choose. In the E3 demo, they increased stability and reload speed, and decreased equip speed. You can also have drum magazines as well.

I would like for them to reveal more abilites that are available and what they do, specifically for Medic. Would also like to know how many maps will ship with game, more character/weapon custoization options, and a video showcasing an 8v8 match on PC, using PC controls. Would also be cool to see videos showcasing each bodytype seperatley. Like a featurette for every bodytype, showing their movement speed, smart usage, playstyle, and how they utilize each class, to give players a taste of what each body type offers, and to also show players that Lights are not going to be the untocjable, ninja assassin, marksmen that a lot people invision them as.

+1 :icecream:

I play 360 though. But the body type vids sound great. It would shut a lot of obnoxious people up. And now that you mention it. Maps would be good. Because that'll have impact on the replay value in the long run.

Well, it might make you happy to know that they have confirmed clan support, but haven't released any details, since the last news on it was that "we are starting to work on clan support". That was a few weeks ago.

I don't want anything specific other than a release date, just more gameplay vids.

ANY new gameplay would be nice. And not have it in God mode.

Wedgwood seems to take massive damage and not go down when he's demoing the combat. But for the container city stuff I guess he had to.

If you're looking on the main map of the ARK, where only The Shipyard and Container City are highlighted, you can already think about what should be coming in the nearest future: The Airport in the North-West and the Founders Tower in the North.

I think I can make out another possible map, as it seems there is a Solar Farm south-east of the Founders Tower. And I believe the area in the very South-East could be a Research Station; next to it, in the South-West there could be a large Medical Facility. ... I'm going off topic here, I think ...

I am at a total loss for the HMG. It has a chainsaw style grip, so the only thing i can tell you is that it most likely is a mounted gun IRL, since you would need a stock if it was an actual infantry gun.

The comments above on the double clip are spot on.

I'm pretty sure that knockdowns aren't possible with weapons. I don't think it even slows people down, since in the videos I have seen people pulling off parkour while being shot at. At most, you might be able to get a skill for soldier that slows or knocks people down when you shoot them, but this is just me throwing an idea out there.

The only thing I know about spread is that you can modify the spread value. For example: Make it x.5 to make spraying in your games easier, or x2 to make aiming a better strategy.

There is deffinately a minigun in the game, it can only be used by heavy players. No info on customization for it yet, though.

I'm just hoping you add a drum magazine or a minigun equivalent, so I can have like a 400 round magazine :)
I also want a grenade launcher attachment for my grenade launcher.

Well, the amount of ammo for a minigun is measured by the lengh of the ammo-belt, isn't it?

Yes, and ammo belts for infantry MGs are kept short to prevent over heating of the weapon. Gattling guns don't have that problem, and can continually fire for as long as they want, but most games use the same short ammo belts for them anyway.

But anyway, you would just need a bigger box to slap onto the minigun, and you would have more ammo per clip. Would make the gun weigh a lot more tho, so expect to see your equip speed suffer (if it's in the game).
