Magic targets other than NPCscreatures

Post » Mon Feb 03, 2014 4:34 pm

Can anyone tell me what things exist in Oblivion that can be/are targeted by magic that aren't NPCs or creatures?

I know doors and containers can be targeted by spells but what else in the game world can be affected?

Is there anything that can be affected by magic where the magic has a timer and isn't just a one-shot? Trying to find this info so I can get an example of the NonActorMagicTarget data in my save file for reverse engineering purposes :)

You character can also be a target.

For example, if you make a destruction spell on self, you can increase your skill. I recommend a weakness spell, because fire, frost or shock can sting.

Or if you construct a damage weapon/armor spell on self, you can use that to level up armorer skills too.

I don't know about timers, but there is a subquest in the Mages Guild questline that involves hitting an object with several different spells:

Spoiler
The "Vahtacen's Secret" quest, where a stone pillar must be hit with four different spells.

Also, even though inanimate objects are not affected by the magical part of a targeted spell, they are affected by the "blast" caused by the spell hitting them.

spells that affect your character don't help me since the player character is counted as an NPC.

I thought that "NPC" meant "non-player-character." How can a "player-character" be a "non-player-character"? :P

You might have better luck in the CS forum; try the 'Quick Questions' thread. Just a guess, but the only thing I can think of is havok'ed items can be targeted with telekinesis, which would have a duration.

Well, you can "harvest" Welkynd stones by knocking them off their pedestals.

I don't know if this helps or not, but Buffy uses telekinesis spells (like ashan mentions above) to target and recover arrows that miss their mark. Not that she ever misses her intended spot but, you know, sometimes those pesky foes move out of her line of fire. Well, that's her story anyway.

Some activators (e.g. switches, traps, etc.) can be affected by spells.
