Skyrim Nords -vs- Aldmeri Thalmors

Post » Tue Feb 04, 2014 4:27 pm

So the Dominion wasted all the time and effort to just keep a small handful of troops there to fight five year bloody war? That's a ridiculous speculation. Why would they suddenly withdraw most of their forces when angry Redguards are busy jumping at their throats trying to take back what the Dominion tried so hard to earn.

The Nordic Shieldwall has proven to be effective against the Thalmor in the past, winning the battle of the Red Ring. However, the Thalmor definitely have the magickal advantage...But that doesn't do much when you've got shields with magic resistance enchants.

In open battle- Nords.

The occupation of Hammerfell wasn't for just land, it was to break up the empire. I doubt the Thalmor actually cared enough about Hammerfell to hold it, their job was done and the Redguards despise the Empire.

So they broke Hammerfell from the Empire just for Hammerfell to be unified and pose an even bigger threat? Unless you are implying that the Thalmor are stupid which they are obviously not.

You don't fight a war for five years (ten actually) just to split a country.

The Dominion, easily.

The Nords are weakened by the Civil War. Even if they united for a full-scale war against the Thalmor, they would have thin numbers and low supplies.

The Thalmor are highly skilled in magic, unlike the Nords. This means they can use magical protection and offense as well as physical. It's likely that the Nords would also have magical aid, but it would be much less potent due to a lack of mages.

The Aldmeri Dominion also includes the Bosmer and Khajiit. Meaning they could potentially have an army three times larger, possibly more with the Nords lack of numbers.

The Altmer have much longer lives than the Nords - or any other race for that matter. That gives their soldiers and mages many more years to master their skills in battle. Physical strength doesn't always make the winner in a battle, but instead training, reflexes and intelligence. You could give a sword to a 1970s Arnold Schwarzenegger and he would be intimidating, but without training he would be useless in a battle.

The only way I think the Nords have a good chance would possible be in a naval battle, but even then it's difficult to say. The Nords are very strong at sea, but so are the Altmer.

The original goal of the Great War for the Thalmor was to conquer land in Hammerfell, with the invasion of Cyrodiil as a distraction for Cyrodiil's Legions. However, when the invasion of Cyrodiil became so successful, the Thalmor switched their goals around to conquer Cyrodiil as well...However, that failed thanks to the late-coming of Skyrim's legions :D

The Bosmer hate the Dominion (at least, the modern Dominion), considering the Thalmor have commited purges against their people in their own home.

The Khajiit, I think, really don't care about the Dominion's wars...They didn't even take any part in the Great War themselves. They're mostly just thankful that the Thalmor alledgedly ended the Void Nights.

In this scenerio, the Thalmor because they consist of more variety of skillsets and therefore give huge advantage.

Skyrim Nords is just Nords.

Aldmeri Thalmor is Altmer, Bosmer, and Khajiit.

There are Altmer that hate the Thalmor too, as well as Khajiit. Doesn't stop the Thalmor from having them in their ranks.

Now if you're actually talking armies, the fighting units that are considered Thalmor are small. However if you're talking about Dominion fighting units, than you have armies.

Really depends...is this a 53 - on - 53 battle? Or just armies facing off?

Obviously because it was fought to a stalemate and then the Dominion forces left.

The Thalmor are already making Nords look bad. They are doing a fine job at getting the country to tear itself a part, and even if Nords drive the thalmor out, congrats on doing the easy part, the actual hard part is keeping the Thalmor out. Seems a lot of people realize it's not all easy to spot Altmer that will be spying around their land, they have humans in their employ too as shown in the Embassy mission.
