Are there forced solo missions (like FF:RR)?

Post » Tue Feb 04, 2014 7:53 pm

I've read plenty of articles about the solo play, but none of them have answered a very specific question I have. I like to play MMO's with my wife, but there's one problem, she absolutely HATES it when there is content that you are forced to do by yourself. We ended up having to stop playing FF:RR simply because of this.

So outside of the opening sequence and getting into the "real world" of ESO, can you play through the main story line together or is there a quest line that you are forced to do by yourself?

Questions like this I'd really love to answer, but I'm pretty sure it violates NDA. :/

Yes, there was a Q&A a while back that said some main storyline quests are single player

Yes there is the main quest. But actually I dont really know if you have to do it or not after finishing the tutorial quests. I think you can just grind with mobs (but it would take 10x longer)

From Ask us anything: Dungeons:

In the previous Elder Scrolls games, we always had the ability to wander into a cave, old fort, or sunken boat to explore, plunder, and pillage. With ESO being an MMO, will we still have the ability to do this in a solo-encounter type situation where we don't run into any other players, or will we be seeing other players and having to wait for enemies/loot to spawn, or will these all only be group encounters? – by Brett S.

The Elder Scrolls Online is set up to be a fluid experience. As you wander the landscape you’ll encounter caves, forts, tombs, dungeons, and etc. Certain rare locales will just be for solo players, and some dungeons are meant for groups made only of people you choose to go in with. Most locales, however, will be accessible by everyone. Some might be too dangerous for you because of your current level, but you can always come back when you are more powerful if you want to complete them solo. We recommend grabbing a friend or grouping up with a stranger if it seems too tough, though, because that’s all part of the fun.

So, while I'm not sure if the mainquestline is forced solo or doable with a team, there are forced solo locations. I am also fairly positive that the answer you seek is under NDA.

I imagine that as everyone does the story quest if you are both playing you would have to at least do the cut scenes & specific NPC chats individually. Other parts of the primary quests are likely flexible in player number.

Developers have already stated the game will be completely playable and beatable while soloing.

If your idea of "the game" is the main story quest only, then yes.

I know what you mean I hate that too. Trying to level with a friend and then we hit a road block and have to stop and do our own thing... Need help with that solo instance? Too bad nobody can help you, then you ask in chat about it and get responses like "zomg so easy I soloed dat at da lowest level you could be and wore a blindfold da hole time!"

I hate that in mmos. Swtor did it right, you friend wouldn't get credit but at least they could join your instance to help you with your mission, it is a massive multiplayer online game... These things should be supported.

Also, that wasn't the concern of the original poster.

He wants to know if the main storyline has forced solo content. I hope not, but people who know cannot answer due to NDA I think.

Thanks for the answers everyone. Ultimately I'm just making her play it anyways as I like the ES world too much :) So she'll just have to deal with it. I'm hoping that we'll be able to play together through 'most' content as a duo. If there's forced solo content where you can't bring a friend, hopefully it's not high difficulty stuff, if it is I'll probably have to play her char through it just so she won't get frustrated and quit.

I am hoping that there are some single player quests like from the old elder scrolls game. Like attending a dinner party and offing people.

OMG that has to be one of my all time favourites. Also loved the one with the orphan kid and the black sacrament.

Yeah unfortunately story quests are solo-only. I really hope they let us bring group-members into these instances, I hate group-questing and then having to be like "see you in a minute we're about to go do the exact same thing in different dimensions of the same place."

Talk about breaking the flow of play.

That's not the issue here (topic of this thread). The issue is that they prefer to play together... As in the entire game. Not just some parts of it.
