Pretty sure you play the whole of the main quest solo...

This is very important, IMO.

This is an MMO, yes, but as a TES game I think a lot of the content in the game should be solo-able. Solo-ABLE. As in, you should have the OPTION to solo pretty much anything save for dungeons, 50+/50++, raids and, of course, taking a keep in PvP or something like that.

That being said, nothing, and I mean NOTHING, not even the "special-snowflake" main story, should be strictly solo-only. You should be allowed to bring group-members and friends with you where-ever you want.

After all, one of the big appeals to me regarding this game is played TES "with friends."

Even MMOs with strong narratives like SWTOR and GW2 allowed you to bring friends into the story instances, and TES should behave no differently.

However they want to handle it is fine. The party leader could be the "main character" or the game could actually acknowledge that you are not the only chosen one (much better IMO) and that many people have had their souls stolen and are on the same journey as you.

If at any point I am progressing with my group of friends through PvE content and we are forced to split up to progress the main story or the guild questlines, that is a massive problem.

I will not confirm or deny whether this was the case in the last beta as I'm not sure if this info was released from the NDA or not, but if it is the case that there are SP-only parts to this game, this needs to be rectified immediately.

An info thread here on this forums stated that most of the main quest took place in Molag Bal's plane and it was mostly solo only.

Some of the main story content is bound to be solo however I have no idea if all of it is. Seems unlikely.

I agree with Capitol98. We should be able to play the main story arc with friends. This is a MMO. Yes, the main story should be solo-able, but it should be the case that we HAVE to do it alone.

I find FFXIV to be more challenging when not able to have outside help. Where is the fun in doing it fast?

I too find it odd when an "MMO" forces you to play parts of the game "solo". But then I understand that they do make those parts very "Solo-able". Its just strange though... And I've never heard a good explanation for it.

Same here but there should be options like even though it's a solo instance somebody should be allowed to come in and help you with it if you're having trouble. I hope we do have that option.

My understanding from very early info (possibly outdated) is that the phasing (the tech which allows you to perceive persistent changes to the world as a result of completing quests and events) is very group-friendly, in that you are able to tackle such events in groups consisting of players in other phases of that same content, because the group has some way to decide what phase everyone is put in (most likely determined by the group leader).

That said, if there are some quests that do not permit grouping, they probably arent the kind of thing you actually need a group for... Best just to accept the developers choice instead of taking too rigid a stance with regards to your gaming philosophy, at least until you have actually tried things their way.

The story in this game seems to follow the previous Elder Scrolls games in that the story centers on the player character. Just like in Morrowind, you were the Nerevarine, in Oblivion, the Lackey, and in Skyrim, the Dragonborn; In ESO, you're the 'Souless One'. Now, I assumed that Molag Bal stole the souls of many people. I assumed therefore that there were many 'Souless Ones' running around, and that the story would center on the players getting their souls back, together. It seems though, http://youtu.be/DlJOPoXUiko?t=1m3s.

So it sounds to me like the other players, as far as the story goes, don't actually exist.

Its kind of hard to be 'the hero' of the story when there are three or four of your buddies standing next to you being told the same thing.,

Assuming that the campaign in all done solo, does this mean there won't be followers like in previous games? Yes they were annoying and got in the way too many times to count, but they held my extra loot like a champ.

Good news, I think you basically hit the nail on the head there.

Without having been there though I do imagine some of the later main quest-lines will lend themselves to small-party play.

But that should be a choice, not something forced on everyone...also I imagine the difficulty would be easily scaled depending on the size of the party.

That doesn't mean that players couldn't do it in a group. Say the party leader is the chosen one and the other members are just that, followers, or whathaveyou (but everybody gets credit instead of having to do the same thing multiple times a la SWTOR or GW2).

This is really where "catering to single-player crowd" becomes a serious problem, interrupting the flow of play for those who want to play TES with friends.

Based on the newest gameplay-video you should be allowed to "travel" to your teammates...that beeing said, i think u join their phasing by traveling to them, so u should be able to get help at ur quests.
