How much is Eso in USD?

Post » Tue Feb 04, 2014 6:30 pm

I thought that standard digital edition of ESO is priced at 59.99 USD.

Today, when I wanted to pre-order my version I saw the price to be 54.99 EUR. This is nowhere near the correct amount if we use the current exchange rates between USD and EUR.

Why is that? Is Bethesda deliberately ignoring those exchange rates or is there some other reason?

Even monthly sub is supposed to be 14.99 USD and yet I will be paying 12.99 EUR which, again, is not the correct exchange rate value.

Is there a way to pay in USD even if you are outside of US?

I got charged in Euros as well, and I'm in New Zealand. Spoke to support, they're looking into the issue because we're supposed to be charged in our own currency.

Try buying from another retailer, like GMG: http://www.greenmangaming.com/s/nz/en/pc/games/mmos/elder-scrolls-online/

So far as I know there is no region-lock, but I can't guarantee it.

As for paying the sub fee in USD, I suspect you're out of luck.

I was charged correctly in AUD here in Australia...It's weird they made you pay in Euros.

I know - they had no idea it was doing that until I told them, their assumption was it would recognise our IP address...clearly someone forgot to mention what NZ IP addresses looked like to their website.

€55 is the GMG price. It's happening more and more often that Europeans have to pay taxes on top of digital downloads from the USA. It's a sickening trend, really.

$79.99 for Imperial Edition which I thought would be way more like over $100 because of the statue alone.

It is not the difference in exchange rate, rather, it is that US Dollar prices are typically quoted without sales tax while Euro and UK Pounds typically include tax (VAT or value added tax in UK for example) It's a common misunderstanding. US sales tax varies from state to star hence why it is usually quoted without sales tax.

The quoted price is: The digital Standard Edition is priced at $59.99 (€54.99 / £49.99)

So, taking a typical exchange at todays rates (Yahoo) $59.99 = €44.35

Typical V.A.T rates in EU are between 20-25%

€44.35 + 20% = €53.22

€44.35 + 25% = €55.43

So the quoted price of €54.99 is about right (allowing for currency variations over time)

p.s. Apparently I can't link for rates. Google 'Yahoo currency' and 'VATlive 2014 European Union EU VAT rates'

EU countries with 25% V.A.T include Denmark & Croatia. Finland is 24%. Hungary 27%. Luxembourg has the lowest rate at 15% and why Amazon and other companies looking to undercut competitors base themselves there.

Typical V.A.T rates in EU are between 20-25%

€44.35 + 20% = €53.22

€44.35 + 25% = €55.43

So the quoted price of €54.99 is about right (allowing for currency variations over time)

From UK HMRC Customs web site;

If you are in the USA then you would pay sales tax on top of the quote dollar price dependent on state tax rate.

In the end we all pay V.A.T. It just that the rate will depend on where you live.
