An Empire Reborn

Based on what happened in Skyrim, what will be the fate of the Empire? After the line of Dragonborn Emperors ended with Martin Septim's sacrifice in Oblivion, the Empire began to crumble. The Mede Dynasty that rules the Empire is bound to fail, so I ask you: What will be the fate of the Empire? Shall it simpley cease to be or will a new Emperor rebuild the Empire? The Dragonborn or one of their descendants seems to be like a worthly candidate. So, will the Empire survive and if so, what do you think it will be like?

I personally think the Empire is crumbling. Winterhold in Skyrim was a good representation of what the Empire is like. It's still there, but not much of it is left. And like Winterhold, it needs to be rebuilt. Skyrim, which has been ravaged by civil war, Cyrodiil which has been ravaged by the First Great War and is still recovering and High Rock, which is High Rock. That province is divided into several kingdoms which are at war over land constantly. The province is definetly not united. To rebuild the Empire, they would need some allies. Hammerfell distrusts the Empire because Emperor Titus Mede II betrayed Hammerfell when he signed the White-Gold Concordat, giving up a large part of the province to the Aldmeri Dominion. But Hammerfell is controlled by two factions: the Forbearers and the Crowns. Even dough they are once again cooperating, there is still a divide between the factions. A good leader like Tiber Septim can use this to their advantage, making an allinace with one side and taking out the other. Then there's Morrowind. The province was devastated by natural disasters and a full-scale invasion from the Argonians. Even dough they are a proud people and also distruct the Empire, they have made an alliances with the Nords and the Empire in the past and if the threat is great enoguh, they would do so again. Most of the southern provinces are controled by the Aldmeri Dominon, with the exception of Black Marsh, but I doubt they would make an alliance with the Empire.

I think we need a new empire all together. The Septim Empire ended with Martin Septim and High Chancellor Ocato

Yes, a new Empire would be good, but what would comprise the Empire. Would this be another Cyrodiilic Empire? A Second Nordic Empire? How would a new Empire be brought about without the Aldmeri Dominion conquering all of Tamriel? If the Aldmeri Dominion is left unchallenged, who is to stop them from fulfilling their master plan to wipe out all of humanity and destroy the Towers? But if a new Empire is to be formed, how would it be different and where would the the capitol? Direnni Tower perhaps? And would this new Empire be ruled by a Dragonborn Emperor? Perhaps a descendant of the Last Dragonborn? I image the Second Nordic Empire would be ruled by a descendant of the Last Dragonborn and would be comprised of the Nords of Skyrim, the Bretons of High Rock and the Colovian Imperials.

After the Mede Dynasty falls, a new Empire would be formed. An allinace or perhaps even intergration of the weakened Kingdom of Morrowind and a divide in made between the Colovian Imperials and the Nibeneay Imperials. Cyrodiil is split in half, with the Imperial City in the middle. Blackwood is lost to the Aldmeri Dominion, causing friction between the Aldmeri and the Argonians. The Second Nordic Empire would resemble the Empire we know in many ways, only a mixture of Nordic and Imperial design. I assume the banner would resemble something like the Ebonheart Pact banner in ESO.

The name Imperial may take on a more historic meaning.

It would certanly make the Second Great War more interesting. If the new Empire would not be a Cyrodiilic Empire, but rather a Breton or Nordic Empire, the war would go on mostly in Hammerfell and Cyrodiil and possibly High Rock. At least untill the tide turns on the Aldmeri Dominion. But of course this would be a very different Empire than the one we know. The whole ban on Talos worship would be a thing of the past, but the Empire might be more prejudiced to the other non-human races. They would be on good terms with the Dark Elves, the Aldmeir Dominion would be their enemies, but what about the Orcs? Would they play a part in this Empire. I imagine that they are living in some sort of tribal alliance in the mountains between Hammerfell and High Rock.

I fully support a constitutional republic based in Elswyr in which only cats are allowed to vote. After a few years of living under the Khajiit, a group of Nords start a protest, arguing that they are hairy enough to be considered cats.

I have no idea where the idea came from, but that will be my headcanon for the next empire of Tamriel until TES 6 comes along to disprove it in a more boring way.
