Should I give Oblivion a try?

Post » Wed Feb 05, 2014 4:52 pm

Hi guys,

First off I wanna say that Skyrim is my first Elder Scrolls game yet and ever since Ive installed it and started playing it in february 2012, Ive fallen in love with the Elder Scrolls lore, with the game , with the characters and everything.

The thing I LOVE the most about Skyrim is replayability ( I have 4 chars and 2 more in my mind for the future) and the fact that its a huge province that you can get lost into and most importantly the freedom and RP value it provides. I now have more than 700 hours playing with all my chars since february 2012, and still playing everyday almost.

Now, some of you might say that this thread belongs in the Oblivion forum or that I should ask there, but I want to ask here because most of you have already played Oblivion and can compare it to Skyrim.

Does Oblivion have the same replay value as Skyrim ? Thanks to Live another life mod in Skyrim , its easier for me to create new characters and RP . In Skyrim I have only 1 character that did the main questline and is the Dragonborn , the rest are a female Orc necromancer/vampire lord , Dunmer pure mage and my newest char, an Argonian thief/bandit/bounty hunter .

Can I do that in Oblivion? do I have enough to do to not get bored on other characters that won't take up the role of the main protagonist?

I guess the main question I have is : is there enough stuff to do in Oblivion , like in Skyrim?

Thanks

I tried it, but stopped half way into the first Oblivion gate. I didn't like as much as I would have.

It's worth a try though.

I could never go back to Oblivion after having played Skyrim so much.

Not even a modded to the teeth Oblivion..... It's like contemplating eating a stale piece of bread instead of opening that new bag.

Oblivion bored me to tears however, it is certainly worth a shot.

The DLC is pretty good (The Shivering isles was awesome).

I tried Oblivion on PC and hated it. Maybe I should try it on PS3 instead. i'm a console player basically.

People say Skyrim's buggy too, but then again I've played through both Oblivion and Skyrim many times without any unofficial patches and never noticed any real bugs except for a few times...

Thats your fault. You didn't play it right
Just joking .
To be honest I can't stay awake long enough to play either. The music makes me sleepy.
I enjoyed Oblivion but I never finished the Main Quest with any of my characters.
I'll go back to it someday, right now I'm seeing what Skyrim is all about.

I'm in the same boat as the OP. I want to try Oblivion as well. So freakin addicted to Skyrim. we have a nasty snowstorm coming in this weekend, I think I'll give it a go then.

To answer the headline, sure why not? Tons of things to do and tons of places to explore :)

My vote is to give it a try as well. It's fully voiced, the combat is similar to that of Skyrim.

While I wouldn't suggest starting with a completely vanilla Oblivion, head over to the Oblivion mods section or the Oblivion nexus and download some suggested and top mods. http://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/44676/? for example is one of the latest necessities to have for Oblivion.

I would rather suggest he does try the vanilla Oblivion first. How else would he know what he really wants to change?

Yes you should try it and the Shivering Isles DLC is truly excellent.

I agree completely with mirocu. Dumping mods into a game you have never played is the worst way to mod any game.
