Xbox One update that is relevant to TESO in-game usage.

Post » Thu Feb 06, 2014 12:22 am

Xbox Wire and Major Nelson have released some info on a couple of updates for the Xbox One, the first is due to hit on February 11th.

While it may not sound as if that would pertain to The Elder Scrolls Online, one aspect of the first update does. It allows the use of a USB keyboard for the One.

The other aspect that could impact how things are handled in-game is handled in the second update scheduled for March 4th. That one will offer significant upgrades to the Party and Multiplayer systems across LIVE.

The reason I bring this up is it has been a point of decent discussion over how in-game communication and joining with friends will work on the consoles in regards to TESO, and maybe this could help smooth the process as it will (hopefully) bring everything closer to the PC standard that most people are familiar with in PC exclusive MMO's.

Discuss, if you'd like.

A keyboard without a mouse? Seems pretty useless...

I was trying to figure out why the poster above me thought a keyboard without a mouse was useless. Even on a pc where most people do use a mouse frequently, I don't seem to have much use for one while typing.

You know, since no one would start platform bashing consoles by making a pointless post in a thread about being able to use a keyboard for chatting with a console or anything.

^ These. I like these posts. :)

Because you won't need the mouse for chatting. Everything you'd use a mouse for in-game would be covered by the controller. The USB keyboard would just infinitely increase the speed of chatting (assuming that ZOS doesn't include ways to utilize the consoles' headsets...).

Oh. I see. I thought you mean using your console as if it was a PC, to play ESO. (Where you'd need a keyboard and mouse).

Nope. In regards to the Consoles, a keyboard would only be used for chatting purposes. :)

Except if it could also use a mouse, you'd have no reason to use a controller whatsoever, even if you were on a console.

For whatever reason Microsoft might have, it seems as though they don't allow a lot of xbox games to have keyboard and mouse input. Use a keyboard for chat, yes. Use a keyboard and mouse for playing a game, no.
