Tatoos & Piercings

Post » Thu Feb 06, 2014 9:55 am

I have a good sized tat on my back . I think of going back in someday and getting a Oblivion Gate with Vault Boy walking through it or something rad like that. I've always wanted my kids intitals that would be cool. I've heard people say that tatoos are addictive and that once you get one, you'd want more. Not so much the case with me but maybe someday I'll get back in the chair.

I have never liked any design or symbol or thing long enough to make it a permanent part of my body. I already have enough holes in my head and body, don't need any more.

Just ask yourself, in 20 years, are you going to still love the design or symbol enough to want to see it everyday as part of your body? Will anyone even know what it means? Will it have any relevance to your life in 20 years?

That was quite an awesome poll.

I kinda like the idea of an Oblivion Gate with a Vault Boy, but I wouldn't pay too much attention to me because I'm quite silly. But then again, I have no tattoos at all: I've occasionally wondered about it, but I'm much too indecisive so it's never happened and likely never will. My own opinion is that "less is more" when it comes to that sort of thing, though I'm certainly one of those people for whom one would never be enough, so that's another reason not to start.

I also voted for facial piercings being quite distracting in spite of having my nose pierced. I'd feel quite uncomfortable if it was distracting someone, because I'm kinda idiotic like that.

And I think employers shouldn't really be bothered by that sort of stuff. The worst co-workers I've had the misfortune of encountering are the ones who maintain an appearance that involves nothing distinguishing.

I don't have any tattoos, but I wouldn't be opposed to getting something on my upper arm, like the Halo logo.

My tattoo is a "badge", it represents something meaningful to me and I could care less if others see it and what it means to them...it's something that I will wear proudly for the rest of my life, if it wasn't then why would I permanently stain my skin? The meaningless marks make no sense to me like those that are cool to do, any tattoo I put on my body symbolizes an accomplishment and serves as a daily reminder of that achievement...so far I only have 1 but in time I hope to earn more (I say earn because I won't mark myself unless I've earned it).

Face piercings (including tongue) and "tramp stamps" are a major turn off to me. Face tattoos will pretty much guarantee unemployment in any respectable business.

I can't answer many of those, since the responses I would pick aren't there.

Personally, I'd pick "No" for any body modification, because I'm not a fan of pain of any sort, and am reasonably conservative in my appearance/style/fashion. In most of the other cases, the answer is "It depends".

Because it does - I would have difference responses to different styles of facial piercings (heavy gauge septum ring, versus a row of lip rings, vs. a nose-to-ear chain, vs. a nostril stud. The haircut and overall appearance of the person would also have an effect on my perception). And tattoos vary widely - some I think are "wicked" (not that I'd use that term in my own head), while others are just messy, or ugly, or meh. Dress code - well, it depends on the workplace, doesn't it?

Soooo much variation in possibilities, it can't all be narrowed down to Yes or No.

A small stud or nose ring is kind of cute. Eye browl ? Lip ? Through the cheek ? Maybe ?

I think it's cool when people turn a bad situation into art like http://intentblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/cool-clever-3d-tattoo-design-dolphin-amputee-body-art-humor-cute-animal.jpeg.

I have a tattoo - it's not on my face but it isn't that easy to hide. Though it's not that noticeable either, so I don't think it's ever done me any harm.

I voted yes to face or neck, but I'd never get a facial tattoo...

Never got any tats and very thankful for that now. I have had multiple piercings over the years though (I think 11 was the most at one time), including my tongue which many of you seem opposed to. My only complaint to that was that it aggrevated my lisp that I never noticed I had and eating spaghetti-o's was pretty impossible. I didn't do it to be cool or impress anyone, so didn't care what others thought. If I could be sure that I wouldn't have any severe scarring, I'd go get my bottom lip pierced today, but there's always that possibility so, nope.

I'd say to each their own, but I do draw the line at face tats. I do not see how permanently altering your face with ink is art, but again, that's just my opinion.

As for the workplace: I'd have to say no because of the grey area. It might not be horribly distracting to have someone with a single eyebrow or nose piercing, but to allow them in the workplace means that someone with 20 facial piercings would be allowed to keep all their stuff in and that, personally, I find terribly distracting. Rather just be a flat no for everyone.

Yeah, same deal with my nose: it was purely because I like the way it looks. I'd be mortified if someone thought it was to try to look cool, since that's a bit of an anathema to me. And a bit of an impossible task anyway.

I'm afraid I'm quite amused at your difficulty eating spaghetti hoops.

I'm not really sure what I think about multiple facial piercings in the workplace. I'm not a fan, but I'd still rather that than someone with executive hair, a plain suit and no personality. I guess it comes down to who I distrust more, someone potentially trying to make a point or someone potentially trying to hide something. My, aren't I the positive one today?

No piercings, here. Just 7 tattoos.
I don't mind piercings, they just aren't for me personally. I do like the look of some piercings on some womens' faces though; it can be pretty hot, up to a point.

Hehe yeah, it was an interesting task to say the least. I had to take a bite, then spend the next 2 minutes trying to remove the o's from around my ring. I haven't really eaten those things since then either...

I guess being I've had lots of piercings and I've met LOTS of people who do it just to "be cool", it doesn't say much to me. Some of those people with loads of piercings rarely do it for themselves, but instead do it for the shock factor or to get people to talk. Personally, I find that more annoying than someone who's putting on a fake front in a suit. Whether good or bad, those who present themselves in a uniform way that aligns with the masses will always be more acceptable than someone who doesn't.

I have no tattoos nor do I plan to. I'm not big on the whole permanent bodily alteration thing, kinda funny though coming from me, hah!

I wouldn't really mind a future child of mine did, though. But there is literally nothing I can think of that I would still like to have on my body in 4 decades from now.
