Yes I am interested in this too, I have an authenticator for WoW and SWTOR, I thought there would have been in authenticator included in ESO's physical collector's edition but I guess not. If not authenticators, maybe they'll do something GW2 does. Not really sure what that's about but it seems like nice extra protection for the account.

Good point. So long as they at least create digital versions for phones, and on ALL phone OS options, from day 1, I'll be happy.

Ohhh I forgot about the phone authenticators. Any of those options will be fine with me, I always like the extra security on my game accounts.

If they aren't looking for a separate token authenticator like WoW uses, digital through mobile works just as well. Zenimax doesn't even have to roll their own authenticator clients for iOS, Android, WP or Blackberry. Just use Google's Authenticator.

I'll take a phone authenticator. Passwords aren't that good.

I never had anything hacked because I use very strong unique passwords with loads of junk in them, but I would not mind mobile authentication.

It's rated M, so the target audience is 16+ I would be surprised if a 16+ person that has access to a PC or next gen console, internet connection, and owns ESO hasn't got a smartphone...

I'm probably not typical, but I don't. I have a phone that I use as a phone. I don't even have it turned on 99% of the time. Last month I used less than 10 minutes of my minutes. I've never bothered to send a text.

Um, hi, 16+ without a smartphone here. :wavey: And I don't intend to buy one any time soon. Which means I'd prefer something that doesn't require a mobile device like phone or tablet. Physical authenticator would be just fine.

I keep a hand written log book of every password I've created for the last 8 years. I use the maximum number of characters and it's a ramdom assortment of upper / lower case and numbers.

Suprize!

That would be me.

Exactly this.

As a victim of hacked accounts in the past on the game developer's side, I'd love to have one too.

Certainly a Phone version, it would be nuts not to have one developed.

Would be nice if they could throw a physical authenticator in the preorders of the physical boxes, and an option to have one mailed to you free if you get a digital version.

Pretty much everyone offers some kind of authenticator now days, however, I wouldn't spend the money on one of those cheap key chain ones like WoW I have a phone for a reason.

statistics no..

I can tell you from experience that authenticators don't 100% stop hacking of peoples accounts. Don't get me wrong they DO help, but nothing is 100% hack proof.

Adding authenticators, be them digital or physical, would be amazing and help account security significantly.

However, as (hopefully) most people know by now, they do not make your account 100% invulnerable to hacking and the like. It can still happen, and having one doesn't mean you can get away with cruddy passwords and never bothering to update them. It's an extra layer of protection, but not a perfect one. Game coding itself can play a factor here as well, and in some cases render authenticators completely useless (see below).

When FFXIV ARR launched, there was an absolutely colossal security [censored]up unlike anything I've ever seen in a game. Not only were session IDs visible in plain text, but they never expired. What did this mean for account security? It meant that somebody could log in to your account with neither your password nor your authenticator code. You could also manually make database changes to give yourself items, gil, or levels, but that's another issue entirely.

account with authenticator never has been hacked on wow or are so rare that nobody has heard about them, to be able to hack an account with a authenticator, you have to be a real hacker with program who can emulate a ton of password quickly, but even there, it's difficult , the password change per 15-20 sec, so the hacker must be just very lucky , so few account with authenticator can be hack, in my opinion, it put your protection at 99% safe, it is a very good protection armor , so when i see a mmo without it, i paranoid about my account.. :P
