Hanging?

Post » Fri Apr 30, 2010 7:07 am

Just wondering If anyone knew if this is in the game?
I would assume so, with all the dev's talk about "No Canned Animations" with SMART and never having control taken away from you, So stopping your character mid-mantle to hang of whatever ledge your climbing should be in the game.

I just think It would be cool to be able to slide off a ledge and be able to hang off that ledge instead of hitting the ground (If you choose too)
Like if your being chased and instead of going down to the ground (Or instead of jumping a gap) you have the choice to slide and hang off the ledge, hoping the other person keeps going.
Or to stop yourself mantling if you see an enemy and don't want to be shot while climbing up, hang there and then continue when enemy is either gone or facing away from you.

So a cat-position, in parkour vocabulary. Which is like that pose in Assassin's Creed when the assassin (or a figure since every being can PK/FR in AC2).

Looking here http://www.brinkthegame.com/features/freedom/ I suppose you can do that looking at the tic-tac/wall hop where he pulls himself up afterward.

yea but he pulls himself up pretty much straight away, so it could be automatic while holding SMART, and letting go might make your char drop.
I dunno I just hope it's in the game

Maybe letting go of the smart button will pause you where you are. I know if you were sliding over a table you'd probably end up on top of the table instead of on the other side. This is an interesting idea.

I don't think it's possible. At least in the expo-demo it was not. Your charcter would just pull himself up straight away or fall down if you released the SMART-Button.

Well at least you have the option to bail if you see someone coming. No "canned animation".

Well hopefully anyway. As much as I want to be able to hang off ledges, being able to bail is the next best thing.

Anyone else notice the stationary gun around the slide and mantle part of this video?

But anyway, I think rev is right, I've never seen anyone stop climbing up and hang.

Umm...yes? You just noticed it now? Or is there something special about it Im not seeing? lol

But anyways, yes, I would hope there be cat-positions in this game. Because the Devs did say that you will be able to fire and use SMART at the same time, and Im pretty sure you can't be pulling yourself up and shooting at the same time, so Im geussing you will be able to stop and then Fire your weapon. I think, or at least i hope!

If you want to fire but are using both hands, you have the option of dropping down and having your gun ready right away.

Or you can take some time while in the cat-pose to use one hand to hold and the other to pull out your pistol to shoot. You may get less aiming area as a disadvantage, but I guess that may be why no one will use if even if the devs feature it, time consuming for little benefit. But it'll be cool.

Still, pulling yourself up is technically a "Canned Animation" If the only option is to complete the animation or abort.

No, it's not a canned animation then.

It was canned if you couldn't stop your avatar from pulling himself up. But you can infact cancel it.
