Well, there is no separate single and multiplayer - it is all the same. Instead of having a single player campaign and an entirely different multiplayer component, everything is integrated - there isn't even a single player or mutiplayer option on the menu. In Brink, the only difference between playing multiplayer and single player, is your opponents. If you play by yourself offline, you play with and against bots. If you play co-op, you play with real people against bots, and if you play fully online, you play against people, and everything you earn or unlock while you play, carries over no matter how you decide to play. That should be enough to help you decide.

so players can unlock everything offline and use it in multiplayer?

I have some doubts about this. Assuming there weill be plenty guns/ attachments, different ranks/ unlocks it seems to be quite unfair that someone can get all of this against bots, when ppl not knowing that will have to face them with basic weapons.

What makes it "unfair?" Just because one person played against real people makes him "better?" The devs have said countless times, to play how you like. They don't want the game to get in the way of your fun - they even anticipate players farming xp, and they say "go for it." You know what sounds unfair to me? A player who can only advance his player and unlock things if they play vs real people. The important thing to remember is that SD is not approaching unlocks like COD does, where there are like a handful of actual good weapons, and using anything less puts you at a disadvantage. There is no "best" gun, just "different."

Also, the guns/attachments are unlocked through a completely separate mode called "challenges." These are entire scripted scenarios that can be played solo or co-op. They have 3 separate difficulty levels, and beating each one will yield more unlocks. In other words, to even get the unlocks for weapons (and perhaps weapons themselves) you don't even play online.

100% confirmed that you can unlock everything offline.

SD wanted to "blur the lines between singleplayer and multiplayer". They are attempting to pull this off by making AI that are really realistic, so that people can get the same experience either way. The AI are realistic enough that many people, if not most, were unable to tell they were playing with bots in the demos. They had 2 rooms with 8 consoles, so people assumed they were playing 8v8, but they were actually playing 4+4ai vs 4+4ai in each room. Even game reporters have had trouble telling that they were playing against AI.

regardless how good the bots are, players will eventually be able to tell the difference between real players and bots, based on their names.

True enough, but its still a good thing to point out when people start worrying about the AI being too hard or easy.

And to orange - If someone actually got to level 20 and unlocked everything before doing multiplayer, they would be in the 16-20 Block with no PvP experience, I don't see how playing experienced players as your first multiplayer game would be "unfair", you would be eaten alive if you were just playing easy bots until then.

You also unlock abilities trough playing, with the main and "huge" abilities at the start. (Like increased health)
Every class also has fixed abilities that you can use from the start (Medics can ALWAYS heal or revive)

You can gain up to 20 levels, but you will be classified in 4 Blocks:
R1 = lvls 1-5
R2 = lvls 6-10
R3 = lvls 11-15
R4 = lvls 16-20

You can chose to play against anyone, but standard you will play against players of your Block.

Playing without friends won't be a problem. Ofcourse it's more fun if you can play with them and you probably have an advantage when it comes to completing certain, more difficult, objectives.

And their behaviour. Bots will always behave rational, as where people do not necessarily.

I don't think so. I think in this game half the fun will be helping your teammates and staying in a tight group to complete objectives. Which means playing with strangers will still be fun and rewarding.

I'm in the same boat, I have friends that are going to get it but I know they won't play very often.
