Please help me with enchanting problem I'm having

Post » Fri Feb 07, 2014 4:01 am

So basically what happens is that I make a daedric sword and try to enchant it with either frost damage and stamina damage or absorb stamina and frost damage. My question is this; I use a fortify enchanting potion before I make the weapon (which I've made 4 or 5 times now only to be annoyed once again) whenever I imbue the enchantments and set them to maximum strength, it says I'll get "000" hits out of the weapon, and when I try to downscale the strength of the enchantment the number of hits scales according to the number of points of damage the enchantment will do accordingly. For example, I try to downscale to 140 points of frost damage and it says I'll get 140 hits out of the weapon, so I try and lower the strength some more to, let's say 60 points and the maximum number of hits decreases to 60, accordingly. On top of this, regardless of what it says on the number of hits I'll get out of a single charge I only get 10 hits at best before the weapon needs to be recharged. What the [censored] is going on here. Can anyone explain or better yet tell me how to fix it? My enchanting is 100 and I have the enchanting skill tree maxed.

Downscaling means you're adding more points to the frost damage. Its inversely proportional.

An example would be this:

20 frost damage with a charge of 100

6 frost damage with a charge 1000

When you downscale you are just making the damage less for more charge or less charge for more damage.

(Best enchantment I've had has been the Fiery Soul Trap since it is considered a single enchantment and when you downscale to have more charge it doesn't affect the fire damage, it only shortens the soul trap effect.)

I get that, which is why I'm confused. I downscale the damage of the enchantment, expecting the charge to last longer. But the exact opposite happens. It says the charge longevity decreases as the strength (damage points) decreases as well. And once again these numbers aren't even realistic, considering that I'm only getting a maximum of 10 hits out of the weapon, completely regardless of where I put the slider at. Is this some form of glitch with one of these enchantments? I have another daedric sword I use with shock damage and damage magicka which hasn't had this problem at all.

P.S. I'm playing on PS3 if that makes any difference.

I wouldn't bother making Enchanted gear(you actually use) until you have 100 Enchant and then make a set of Enchant Armor and drink a potion then go at it.

Lol. My enchanting is at 100, with every single skill in the enchanting tree acquired. I'm using a fortify enchanting potion of 455% and the end result is still garbage for some reason

If you are using the Fortify Restoration exploit : at extremely high numbers the game will register them as negative numbers and the glitch will not work.

I know that as well, I never go past 3 digit numbers, 4 at best. But it seems no matter what strength of fortify enchanting potion I use the enchantment always ends up not working properly. I'm not trying to make a weapon with stupendous enchantment damage, I only want the longevity of the charge to increase so I don't have to recharge the weapon every 30 minutes, or in this case, 2.

Are you using Grand Soul Gems ?

My guess would be it is a glitch...I have never heard of it before but stranger things have happened with Bethesda games.

grand and black gems, yes. What's even stranger is that I made a daedric sword with 135 shock damage + 480 magicka damage earlier and I have yet to see any sign of the charge being depleted in the slightest. So success, somewhat, on that one. But I don't understand why it won't work with stamina damage + frost damage OR absorb stamina + frost damage, considering I'm doing nothing differently apart from a different enchantment used.

I also did the same for a daedric dagger with 150 absorb stamina + 210 stamina damage and it also has not shown any sign of the charge depleting

If you can't find a solution to your problem...enchantments such as Frost Damage run off of the Destruction tree. Therefore, wearing a piece of armor with a Fortify Destruction enchant that reduces the magicka cost by 100% or higher should keep the charges from depleting entirely.

So I made a ring with fortify destruction and conjuration, both for 247% and it seemed to work at first for my weapons but after fiddling around for a bit with my swords and daggers are still depleting their charge. Any ideas?
