Fallout-esque Apocalypse Tabletop RPG

Post » Sat Feb 08, 2014 9:34 am

Good day to all Gamers and forum readers/posters... for nearly a decade I along with my normal tabletop gaming group have played several various RPG's with each of us making a character and then taking part in one of the groups new or ongoing campaigns. Recently I put forth the chance of us changing genres to a post-apocalypse game run by me with those who wanted to participate. When asked I said that it would be Fallout-esque with the date set at perhaps before or at 2277 or 2287 with bits of technology ideas from other games being thrown into the world along with a lot of non-canon home-brew equipment, vehicles, robots, and etcetera.
It's one of the things that I liked about the Fallout games is the divergent path that technology took up until 2077 when the bombs fell and the possibilities of areas mentioned in the previous games from Canada, Alaska, Hawaii, and etcetera and the numerous starting points that could be taken including the players being the descendants of US military personnel who survived the bombing of China and after two centuries attempt to return back to the USA using a cobbled together Chinese warships that could be hit by some prototype sea-based robot that attacks their vessel before they all wash ashore in Virginia or Florida... maybe Texas.
Hopefully an Admin will say if I can bounce ideas here without them becoming part of the next fallout game or falling into a legal battle at a later time...
D20 Core Books- All books published by Wizards of the Coast for starters along with the Apocalypse as the primary reference
Monster Manuals to create wasteland critters like the Yao Guai
Blood & Guts Books- For those who wish a more Military background or vehicle based Feats i.e. Perks...
3rd Party Books- Some thou would I get in trouble for mentioning the abandoned PnP mentioned on the Fallout Wiki site
3rd Party Material from RPG now for certain tables of what the players will find in the wasteland or loot off a corpse.

Due to the ongoing Sino-American War in China I could see the US government putting effort into developing new weapons technology, power armor variants/modifications/equipment, vehicles, and other endeavors to quickly win the war and increase the survival ability of the troops. I could also see the US constructing either manned or unmanned bunkers that would be used to house personnel or store needed military hardware, supplies, and ordnance on the off-chance of a Chinese Invasion by sea or air with several existing bunkers like the Greenbrier being reactivated for service whilst being expanded... there could also be the chance of bunkers being built in places like the Patton War museum or other museum to house not only current model vehicles but the needed factory equipment to make ammo and spare parts...

Power Armor Variants-

As seen with the Medic Power Armor I could see the next version including the use of an internal pharmacopoeia injector that when needed automatically injects the needed drug into the wearer's body to heal or boost up by Psycho or Jet... I could see a Pre-War inhalant drug similar to Jet being made but never saw field deployment.

What about variants with a greater strength boost above 2 or because of deployed troops in China certain mods were added to those suits like a Self Destruct or Electro-Shock

PIP-Boy Variants- Because of the success behind the PIP-Boy model the US military saw the benefit of a military version for soldiers but never saw field deployment.
