This is a thread for those games that were either badly received or just passed everybody by even though they are actually quite fun! This is not for critically acclaimed Game Of The Year games, or classics such as Baldur's Gate.
The reason I made this thread is because I've recently played such a game myself. I really liked the Game Of Thrones Tv-series and on a whim got the Game Of Thrones RPG game.
The GOT game has an average metacritic score of 58/100!
Imagine my surprise when I found it to be one of the better (RPG) games I've played!
So here goes for the badly rated GOT Game:
The visuals (design, graphics, locations) are average, not ground breaking but passable.
The RPG characteristics (loot, stats, development) is decent. Enough to be entertaining but on itself they wouldn't carry the game. You've got 5 major stats (Strength, Luck, etc) along with skills for weapons, types of armor, and a couple of classes with (combat) abilitites. Enough to make leveling up enjoyable, but not enough for the real min maxers. It's more classic and old school than recent rpgs, but less well developped than old ones.
The Combat is good. You feel like a badass without taking down unrealistic amounts of enemies. It remains the GOT-Universe where even master swordsman can't survive 5 to 1 odds. You've got plenty of different abilities, weapons, enemies to keep the combat interesting enough for the duration of the game.
The game length is around 25-30 hours I'd wager.
The story is really really good. You are fully in the GOT-Universe, with everything that entails. Murder, betrayel, twists, etc. All with proper foreshadowing and believable motivations. It managed to blend in perfectly with the tv-series without being in any way dependent upon it. It is fully its own story.
So, any RPG fan and GOT fan should certainly buy this game, even though it only received 58/100.
Any other Underrated/unknown/underappreciated games suggestions?
